Starting to get off Topic!

Need to add a bit here about my experiences with 2.2 stroke rods and pistons.
The thread is starting to "drift" that way at about Posting #23....

With a 93mm bore 1.9 block I took oldopelguy's advice and looked at 1980-82 Ford V8 255 CI - 4.2 Litre pistons which are 93.5mm standard bore ( +.030" takes them to a whisker over 94mm). The compression height is 1.585" ( 40.26mm)
With a 2.2L crank stroke of 77.5mm and a block height of 208mm the "maths" works out like this:

208mm - (38.75 + 40.26) = 128.99mm for rod length ( 5.078")

The nicest rod anywhere near this length is the SOHC Ford four cylinder rod at 5.2" ( 132.08mm ) which would mean about 0.110" needing to come off the heads of the pistons. However after-market "H-beam" rods are available with Chevy V8 small journal bearings in them 1.998" diameter which allows the Opel 2.042" journals to be ground undersize to fit - and we all know that chevy bearings are sooo much more available.
I have these items in my possession (the pistons arrived today - and I have the rods, plus 2.2 crankshaft) so a bit more info will be forthcoming....

With the 95mm bore 2.0 block other (bigger!) pistons are needed and the nearest one here is the 334 CI (stroked 305 CI) Chevy V8 piston.
=.030 V8 pistons take them above 95mm by about 0.25mm and up to +.060" pistons are available. Pin height is 1.4330" ( Keith Black KB 186 pistons - which are hypereutectic too!) which is 36.12mm.
The maths here works out like this:

208 - (38.75 + 36.12) = 133.13

Which is, once again a "close fit" for the 132.08mm length Ford Pinto 5.2" rods

Certainly worth pursuing a bit more ........

Um, the thread (at http://www.opelgt.com/forums/showthread.php?p=65317#post65317) was about valve porting. Jim, how the HECK did you get to Pinto rods?
So this is now a thread about that. Split off from the "drifting" thread. And I will now go back and clean up the unrelated banter on the valve porting thread...

Sorry about that Keith. Maybe I need to figure out how to move threads around myself for you?
No, no, Stephen, it was Jim who went off. No worries about responding to an off-topic post. The Moderating Team LIVES to berate the members to stay on-topic (OK, maybe just me) :D
