Hazard lights don't work, directionals do work. I can hear the relay click once when I turn on the hazards, and that is it. I have used the 15 MM wrench on the relay and it still doesn't work. I swapped out the hazard switch and it still does the same thing. What am I missing?
I tried another relay and and get the same results. As far as the ground goes checked and the switch and relay are both grounded. The car is a 69 and I put a steering column in from a 72, I assume they are all the same just bolt in and hook up the connectors, am I correct? The hazards worked after I put in the new column for about 2 applications, then quit working. Headlights and all other lights work. Is there a seperate fuse or relay that I missed?
It is possible that the amount of current being drawn when all are flashing is too much for a bad connection somewhere in the supply portion of the circuit. I would check the fuse and fuse box for corrosion as well as the spade connectors for the blinker / flasher circuit. You could also have a similar problem at the hazard switch so check there too.
Problem with using 40 year old parts is that sometimes the used replacement is also not functioning as well. That said..
If it worked twice and then quit working.. I have to agree with Mark and PJ. It's a connection to the switch or to the relay from the main power or a loose ground somewhere.
Also check the ground to the column at the column bolts. I have seen that either not be put back right or sandwiched in a way to not get a good ground.
Bad grounds cause all sorts of funny issues..
Low Voltage can also cause a relay to not work properly. This is often seen when a customer puts in LED bulbs and wonders why nothing works anymore.. and blames the relay or harness. When in reality its because the load of the bulbs is more than the load of the LED so the relay doesn't trigger.
