How do you remove the shift knob/shaft on th 1.1L standard shifter? This is the long shifter, not the short console shifter. The upper shaft just spins on the the trans stub and doesn't unscrew, and I can't see any set screws or such. Somebody help!

Re: How the heck?

If it's like the one for a 1.1L GT, there is a large c-clip around the periphery at the base (might be covered with grease). I believe you need a "snap ring" plier to remove it. However, I managed to remove mine with needle nose pliers.

Ahhh, I figured I was missing the boat somewhere! Now all I have to do is stand on my head to find it.
Thanks!

(Just in case you wanted to know) to remove the stock shift knob I believe that you have to put it in water at a certain temperature. You have to do the same thing to get it back on. It shrinks as it cools and is securely fastened to the shift lever when cool.
