Salutations Friends,

I am looking for information on a Popular Mechanics article from decades long past in which the authors replaced an Opel drive train with a hybrid one that consisted of a Jet engine starter motor, I believe a 5 hp lawnmower engine, and a number of batteries. The auto got somewhere around 70 mpg, with good performance. Does anyone have a copy of the article or know the year/month?

I thought the one on e-bay recently was a purely electric conversion with a socket plug where the gas filler neck was???? In San Diego???

I believe that car ended up here in NE Iowa. I haven't talked to the owner but I have seen and heard him humming by. I was told he had purchased it on Ebay, and I remember seeing it on there.(The all electric one.)

That is the article! So if "amatuers" can build a hybrid thaty gets 75 mpg from scrap parts for $1500.00, why don't we see this in the "real" world? Thank you so very much for the link!
