Hello...

The po did something to the ignition switch that I do not understand... the ignitioin switch will not start the car. You have to turn the switch to the "on" position and then press a push button to start the car. Now I understand the concept surrounding the push button - The real issue comes from the fact that the ignition switch will not turn to the "start" position. On my other GT, the switch can turn past the "on" position and then start the car... when I release the key it springs back to the "on" position. On this broken switch, it will only turn to the "on" position - not past to the "start" position.

Now that is probably as clear as mud... Any help?

Common repair for switch contacts either broken or shorting out- since replacwment switches are as rare as hen's teeth- good luck finding one to replace it. If you do find a working one :) , get an Otto start to save it from an untimely death.

Mine had the same kind of Micky Mouse things done to it by the PO. I went to painless, they have a nice little relay for around $20 and it fixed the problem right up. The hard part was finding out what the knuckle head did to the car before I got it.

Inside the switch is a small dog that keeps the spring in place, it is a tiny piece of pot metal. Not that long ago I took one apart that was doing the same thing and found that at some point the ignition was turned too far and broke this thing off. It jams it at the run position so no way to start it even if the contacts were good. I know that OGTS repairs this switch but I'm not sure what they do if it's broken. You could call them and ask.

Seems like a push-button starter is in order. I had plans to do this in the future - seems like now is as good a time as any.

Thanks

I took an old ignition switch out of a 65 lincoln continental and mounted it where the cigarrette lighter was supposed to go. Worked like a charm.
