I got a visit today by a friend. First Opel at my new shop in fact!

He was having trouble with a new Midikit single side draft intake manifold. It didn’t sit flat against the head. After mocking it up on a spare head and Sprint manifold, we found contact at the #2 and 3 exhaust runners. I had to grind about .060” (1.5mm) from the intake in order for it to sit flat. There was also slight interference at the forward-most mounting flange. All good now!

Various upgrades to the shop, along with some minor Opel related work.

I built this storage unit for CIH cylinder heads. I figured it can hold 42 heads, which is a little over 2300 lbs!

I threw on a set of Hella 4000’s on my daily driver.

Ported a set of Risse intake manifolds to match a ported big valve 2.2 head I have. Did a flow test....I was not disappointed!

Some organizing/restacking occurred, since I was running out of space already. Once the second storage loft is built the floor space willl open up appreciably

Repurposed an old dresser for my engine room. I will probably store specialty tools in the drawers.

Some of my work stations found their final homes.

New LED overhead lights in the engine room. Yes, I replaced the defective light already!

The lawn is coming in nicely around the shop!

What a beautiful shop, Bob!!

My dream one of these days is to have a garage big enough for four or five cars. I guess I'd better hurry as I'm now 65 years old.

Who gets to do the inventory?
Well, I’m the boss, the chief fabricator, head welder, primary mechanic, head of maintenance, lead bottle washer, and floor sweeper. So I guess that falls under my umbrella too.

Today I finished up the repainting of an old dresser. It was originally my sister’s (she passed away in 1999), and I inherited it from my mother when my mom passed away in 2004. In truth it’s been in storage for all these years, since I never utilized it in my old house.

My dad’s woodworking shop custom-built it for my sister to her liking. It was built like a tank too, VERY heavy and solid.

Well, it definitely didn’t fit into my new house’s decor. I considered selling it but since it was a very personalized item I changed my mind and decided to paint it and use it for my shop. However off-white lacquer and brass hardware doesn’t blend in too well to my shop environment.

Ok..lets see. You have 20 heads here...and if you used one every two years, thats 40 years...That should be enough!!
Says the guy who has three spare VW vans to keep one running!

And here I thought I was hoarding by having FIVE heads... Dang!
Well, some of those heads are kind of rare. Some are just unusual in the US. The rest are just regular 1.9 heads.

I’ve got two new Swedenheads, one new Kadett GTE 1000 head, about 6 or 7 of the raised port 2.2/2.4 heads, three 1.5 heads, one 1.6 head, and two 1.7 heads. I also have my own personal stash of 4-bearing/10 bolt heads (late-1970, all 1971, early-1972 vintage) which is my preferred go-to performance head core. Sure, the 2.2 and 2.4 heads can be made to flow more, but they really only surpass a well ported 1.9 head at high valve lift....higher than any off the shelf cams in the US. The 1.9 heads are a better choice for street use and many forms of racing when cams with .500” lift or less are used.

The other ‘normal’ 1.9 heads are all heads I will eventually prep to sell. I’ve saved them because it’s not like you can just go to any old junkyard these days and buy cores. With Bill Daley’s shop closed up (and him passing away), there’s really nobody left in the northeast with any used cylinder heads anymore. I was never one to sell used parts but if somebody needs them, where do you get it from?
