I'm looking for an Opel GT. What are some of the things I should look at that
nobody thinks about until after they make their purchase. I found one that
I am going to check out, and I am going to do a Leak Down Test, check for rust, check all the fluids for water. Can anyone think of anything I should look at.
Thanks

you asked the right people

I am probably not the one to inspect it as I would way overvalue it  but you are at the right place.

post some photos. engine bay, interior, battery area. rockers, underneath car.

there is a texas opel club. maybe a member is not too far away.

there were some nice ones in the ads here. I thought the white gt for 5,500 was pretty sweet and ready to roll.

buy the best gt you can afford, parts are reasonable, but it ads up quickly.

Hey GTDREAMER- if your in Alvin then you are just a little bit south of me here in League City. Are you looking at a club members car or have you found some fresh meat?
Battery pan -look out- good place for rust thru
Brakes- make sure they are not locked up
Floor board- watch out or your feet could be getting asphalt burn
Bondo- look for excessive bondo- take a magnet and a dollar bill- put the dollar bill on the body and the magnet on top. Slide it around the different panels- if the dollar slides off of the magnet then probably body damage or repair
Just about every thing else is easily repairable especially with the advice of all these fine folk on this site.

Thanks

Thanks for the information, Texas Tom, evidently we are just a few minutes apart. I don't know if the man who owns the GT belongs to a club. I, do not
belong to one either at this point but when I find the right GT, I'm sure to join one.

GTDREAMER- if you send me a PM with pictures, maybe able to help you nail down a fair price. Most sellers of GT's think they are worth 10K but only a very few are. AND if you don't buy it and it is local- perhaps you might send me the name and number- as I am looking for another GT for the wife- she just doesn't know it yet.

PS There is a club member in Lake Jackson - if you want to contact him, I can get you his name and number too!
