I don't have any first hand experience with Megajolt Lite Jr.
It looked like a cheap way to have a crank triggered ignition
and programmable timing curve, so I have gathered some junk
yard parts to do a mock-up to the Opel front cover and pulley.

"Boing!!!" youve got my attention. Looks like a winner here if the trigger can be set accurately. No more jerking around with the dist.

The only thing I can see suspect with the system, is that the plugs will fire twice during the evolution of one complete cycle for each cylinder, and you will still need a distributor of some type to direct the spark to the cylinders in the correct firing sequence. What I see in the pics is a magnetic pickup that is triggered by a toothed gear wheel. After looking at the website, this unit was designed for Ford computer controlled fuel injected systems and may not be functional without the computer or the module set up for the Opel. A complete unit is available for $150 from the manufacturer, but as an experimental unit has no expressed or implied warranty or guarantee. It may work well with Opel fuel injected units as it uses some of the inputs that are on the Opel computer for that system, but that is a guess, and may take some R & D by the builder to make it work. There is no problem with two spark events per engine cycle. This is a standard wasted spark configuration. The EDIS unit is mostly self contained. It will run completely on it's own at a fixed engine position. Beyond that, it needs a relativly simple signal to tell it when/where to fire. This is what these projects are all about; building a small microcontroller that will tell it when to fire...

Garry, I am a little concerned with the alignment of your VR sensor. Ideally, it should be pointed at the center of rotation of the wheel

Just as a point of interest, you may want to seek out a timing cover from a 2.2 or 2.4 liter engine as they have an accomodation for a crank sensor built in to the cover. That way you could be assured of proper alignment of the sensor to the trigger wheel. European late model Opels use crank triggered ignition stock from the factory.

The way the sensor is mounted is a mockup, its just hanging there by the magnet that it has in its end. I think the toothed ring will need a little machine work on it too. The pulley will also need to be balanced.

The sensor won't need to be at 9:00, it does have to be 90 degrees before the the missing tooth on the wheel. You need to know exactly where TDC is.

That is an interesting idea. I'll see if I can find a picture of that.

I've got the 36-1 ring installed and the VR sensor bracket made.
Before I make the big leap..What kind of pitfalls might be lurking around with the Megajolt system? Is the software user friendly? From the looks of the gui it reminds me of the holley commander. Well sort of.

If the megajolt system uses megatune like megasquirt does it is very easy to configure, you just enter in the ignition curve sequence determined by the MAP reading and rpm onto the table and you're good to go.

map or tps

It looks like the GT is getting an early Christmas gift.
The megajolt is on order. I'm kind of worried about the lack of proven results with the combo.
The CT F306/290-04 106 might be a little large for a map input so I went with the tps. With a small amount of cash theres a conversion kit to map. So I'm going to play around both ways. ACDC:lmao:
BTW for ya'll whos worried about tps input look into GM or Ford suspension level sensors.

Roy wanted more info on the jolt.

Here's how mine turned out.



The two wire sensor under the coil pack is a flat response knock sensor.
I'm still playing around with it.:)

VR sensor mounting along with the 36-1 tone ring.



Dont use this one. I was running the system in alpha-n mode only the 100% load ROW is correct.




Temp. corrections for some overheat protection.
