As some of you may know it is my family responsibility to make my 2 older brothers life a little easier.

My brother Doug flew in from Arizona to go with me to see our oldest brother Jordan. He is a Disabled Vietnam Veteran that is legally, but not totally blind, with numerous other agent orange related problems Diabetes, Parkinsons, Heart, digestive and Kidney problems which make him so weak he must use a wheelchair.They are talking about a feeding tube but he is currently eating Pureed everything. I know the feeding tube is the last step as my father and mother both passed after being given that option. Obviously, he no longer live in his home and is now in the Veterans nursing home in Daytona Beach.

He is a car nut like me and used to have a Lime green 1969 Opel GT until he got a Mazda RX7. He left those behind for a Jaguar XKE which he still has along with a 2002 and 2004 Vette an MGB , a Bugeye Sprite, A MGTD w/a Volvo engine as well as Buell and Harley Motorcycles. He let them all go into disrepair. My job is to get them started and moved into storage or sold. At "My job" today I realized that I have more work ahead than I expected/ imagined. I managed to get the 2 Vettes running with just new Batteries and have the MGTD in the enclosed trailer in storage. The XKE doesn't want to turn over even with a new Battery The bugeye turns over but hasn't started and the Biggest headache, the MGB, has the steering locked and the Key won't turn to unlock it and try to turn it over...The hood release cable appears to be broken and who knows what else. In order to get the cars to the storage yard I need to move the MGB to get to the Bugeye ...I can roll the "E" out to have it flatbedded. I'm looking on you tube etc to see how to attack the MGB ignition etc problems. I wish he still had the 69 Opel GT...then I know I'd get it fixed before I go nuts.

I hate working in the heat and am at wits end. I just needed to vent. I'm back at the Hotel ...just took a shower and got a pep talk from Gerri (who is back in NY) before heading back to the Nursing home..

Thanks ... I'm in Daytona Beach, Florida...
I joined the MG forum and got some info on where to start. If I still can't get the ignition unlocked tomorrow morning I'll call a locksmith.

Start early, stay hydrated and ask for help. Those British car people can be pretty helpful, since you have 3 British Cars. Most of all, take care of your self and don't over heat.

Craig & Doug, That may qualify as an Adventure, it's certainly not a Vacation.
Jordan has good taste in automobiles, but he should have kept the Opel GT. IMO
There are buyers for any of these, especially the British XKE , MGTD, and MGB stars.
I was looking for an MGA or MGB when I found my Opel GT. No serious regrets.

Had a better day today... I read all the MG threads about the steering lock and ignition key and the best advise was, that if time is limited, call a locksmith.... I called 3 before I got one that was willing to tackle the job.
After an hour he decided to bring it to an "expert" who tried then they decided to get an impression of the lock and make new keys. He spent almost 3 hours total and said he learned something so it wasn't a wasted afternoon. The bill was $150 which I feel was good. I then called a transporter and had the car put in storage along with the XKE. NOTE: E's with the 4.2 have negative ground were as the 3.8 has a positive ground like the Bugeye. I also worked on the Bugeye but didn't get it started... it goes into storage tomorrow. The Buell and the Harley also get moved tomorrow, Jordan wants the Buell to go to his neighbor across the street...I guess I'll end up w/the Harley.

After I finish working at Jordan's house tomorrow I'll go see Jordan again then start back to N.Y.
I'm looking forward to 1) seeing Gerri, 2) getting on my bike, 3)working on my OPEL GT and 67 Beetle.

FWIW.... Almost all cars were positive ground prior to sometime in the 50's.....it was just the convention. I think the transition from 6v to 12v systems marked the time when things switched. But for British car electrics, don't try to make sense of it; they were just all goofed up LOL

R.I.P. Jordan

My oldest brother Jordan took a sudden turn for the worse and passed away while my brother Doug and I were visiting him in Daytona Beach. Some of you met him at Carlisle quite a few years ago where he spent most of his time checking out the British cars. He had bought Doug's 69 Opel Gt and I got it after him but eventually sold it.
I'll be going back down to get his XKE, MGB, MGTD w/Volvo engine and Bugeye Sprite running and sold or moved to either AZ or NY. All are in Fair condition and I really don't need, want or have room for them.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss, at least the suffering for him is over. The worst thing in the world is feeling like a prisoner in your own body, unable to do anything while your body slowly shuts down. Not being able to ride or drive vehicles is also torture for people who really enjoy it. I hope his estate was in order, to make the process of dealing with everything under his name easier.

Wow, so sorry to hear about your brother Craig. I have not been on the forum too much lately and did not see this thread until this morning 8/21. I wish you would have called me, I would have been happy to drive to Daytona and help you. Give me a call and we will see if I can help now. Jeff

I am so sorry to hear about your brother's passing. I hope a part of him is in the cars and memories you have together.

May he rest in peace.
