The first thing to check when things go weird is the grounds. Every circuit needs a path back to the negative battery terminal. Most intermittent electrical problems that affect more than one thing are due to a poor ground.

Looking at J.J.'s diagram, # 2 terminal (12 ga Brown) on the Green plug (Dash harness to fuse box) is the main ground connection. Then the rest of the dash grounds connect to the back of the speedo.

Check the plug first to see if it is tight. Next stick a test light into # 2 terminal. If it lights when the key is on, your problem is either the recepticle or the main ground. if no light, the problem could be at the back of the speedo and you'l have to pull the dash panel.
