More Progress

There was more progress today as Keith assembled the engine and transmission, then installed them. He also showed the new hood mounts which are finally correct. I love getting all these updates from him. They are also on Opel Owners U.S.A. fb page.

A minor update

Today Keith installed the intake manifold and the new header, both of which look great and you can also see the new A/C compressor and a few other things in there too. Also her was fitting the new curtain for the spare tire compartment, matching my seats and the new headliner is the exact same color too.

Looking good! I wish I would have used those reduced barrier hoses when I did my AC! Those are much smaller and cleaner looking.

A little more progress

Keith got the carb installed along with some more A/C components and the headliner trimmed. He also got the new master cylinder and brake booster done and bled the brakes. She is coming back together quickly and
I can't wait for her to be finished and road ready.

My speakers came in so Keith went ahead and installed them. He did an excellent job of it too. All 4 of them are on the back package shelf but the look awesome. They are Rockford-Fosgate, 2 6x9 triax and 2 6" coax. I think these will give my retro rodded Opel GT radio a nice loud voice.

Might just be the picture but it looks like you should ask Keith to repaint the wiper motor cowl closure plate.

A little more progress here. Lights, hood, dashboard installed. Also Keith got most of the back end of the interior done along with the fender well covers and laser cut door panels, kick panels and rear side ones. It is really going to look great on the inside.

Keith worked on my car some today, kudos to him for working on a Sunday. He got most of my door panels done, seat belts installed and checked out some of my lights, dome light and exterior lights are working, some of the dashboard lights are out so he will have to go back into it and clean my gauges to see which ones are working etc. Also he got my side windows in. Next year after I have her resprayed, I will use the chrome ones for the windows.

A little closer after today. Keith changed out my wiper motor to one that works right, fixed my blower to run on high & low, and hooked up my retro-rodded Opel GT radio. All my gauges and lights work now, including turn signals and according to Keith my stereo "sounds pretty damn good" and "She thumps"! He texted me a couple short video clips which I would've added if I could get them off my phone and over to the computer, so you will have to make do with a couple of previously viewed pics.

She is almost done now, just a few small details and she will be ready for the road. Exhaust system is in now and all lights and gauges work. All that is needed now are a couple of small parts for the console, and the arm rests for the doors. I can hardly wait to go pick her up and drive her home.

Closer to finished than ever now. Although Keith still has to install the rest of the A/C components behind the seats, under the luggage area and a few other minor other things, the seats are in and the exhaust completely finished.

Friday the 12th I finished flying and riding a bus out to Cookeville,Tn. and was met at the bus station by Keith. We went back to his shop and there was Penelope, all ready to go. We discussed her for a bit then he showed me the other stuff going on in the shop with other projects. It was the start of an epic 900+ mile trip in my GT to get her home. For the most part the trip went well with no issues other than my wipers going wonky after driving all day in the rain. I managed to get them re-aligned after I bought a small tool kit at a truck stop. I also managed to let her run out of gas in the rain, I just knew I had plenty of fuel and could get to the next exit, I was wrong. Thankfully someone stopped and helped me out and took me to the next exit, so I could buy a gas can and some gas, the only thing is that I got soaking wet and lost some time. I was chilly out there too, I managed to get dried out some at the gas station when I drove there to fill the tank. Other than that, I really had no issues whatsoever. It was a pleasant trip and today, it was sunny and warm so I got full use of my new A/C system. I stopped off at my friend Robert's place to show him the car and he was gracious enough to let me wash her and get her all cleaned up for the rest of the trip home. I must say I really enjoyed driving across Dallas to Ft. Worth at 85-90 mph. She is noisy at 70+, lots of wind and road noise but that's ok, I'll live with it. The sway bars make the ride a bit harsh but she corners so well now, so once again the trade off is worth it. I had a blast taking Robert, his wife and his son and his gf for short rides. Then it was off to home and she is now in my driveway at last, and ready to run errands in tomorrow.
