I have acquired a '73 gt and I want to make it a sleeper that can still go to the drag strip and possibly do autocross with. I want to put a small block chevy in it. Thoughts and ideas for how to build?

Easiest way by far is to do a full tube chassis, and either drop your GT body onto it or do a fiberglass body.

Why? The stock brakes, suspension, transmission, rear axle, and unibody are not suitable for a V8 swap, if you intend on either hard dragstrip launches or hard cornering. You will have exceeded the original design intent by about 300% with even a mild 350 Chevy for example.

There's this thread which showcases a similar intent: http://www.opelgt.com/forums/member-projects/90209-my-fiberglass-gt.html

Or something like this, which is LS powered. https://youtu.be/iAdBojhIpiE

The car will be getting a tube frame and everything is going to be replaced.
Well then there you go! There's no manual for that, you're largely on your own. I might suggest trying the Pro Touring forums, since there's a lot more of that type of thing going on there. A lot of interesting swaps going on there!

Not that we're all purists here, but the proportion is probably about 15-20 V8 powered Opels in a forum of 18,000 members.
