Yes, I have been bitten by the Opel Bug. Me and my dad found another Opel GT about 30 minutes from here. I would like your opinion on what to offer. Here are some of the specs:
1970 Opel GT, Automatic tranny, All good glass (rear with defrosters), Engine looks to be in great shape, except for a little oil on the black, Body is in awesome shape..very straight, hardly any rust except for some surface, and a couple spots almost through (not even behind wheel wells is bad)..doors have some rust, but can be fixed, headlights roll over fine, belly pan is rusty, but not RUSTED (if you know what I mean), body is really straight, their aint hardly any dents at all!, skim bondo in a couple area's on the front clip, the car runs and drives, interior is kind of shot, not sure on actual mileage (ODO says 57XXX)

Whats you opinion on what this car would cost? I was thinking that since I have lots of spare parts.. I could pay 7 or 800 and still be getting a decent deal, but thinking of offering 5-600? What do you guys think?

Also, If anyone ELSE is interested, I really want a 4-speed (and also a 72' if possible) so If you have something that meets those needs, and is in as good of shape, or better as the 70' I will consider a trade with you..because I will probably attempt a conversion if there are no takers.

I could add some parts in if you feel like your getting ripped..

Thanks, let me know what you all think

It would nice to have a few pictures to look at, however offer your lowest price that you think you could get by with. All they will say is no, and then maybe give you the price they are looking to get, then make a counter offer that is just some what more than than your original but still lower than theirs. $500 would be a more than fair price if it is a good as you say, and it could go between 1000 to 1500. If you get it and want to convert to a 4-speed I will be more than willing to swap a manual set up for the automatic set up.

Just wondering what I should expect to get for gas mileage out of a 70', automatic, with a weber carb?

I can't even imagine driving an Automatic opel, yet, I have caught the bug and am probably going to buy anyway. Should I keep it an Auto, or swap with the 4 speed? Whats it cost to switch?

This will probably be a daily driver (hoping)

auto or manual

Hi;

How much city driving do you intend to do?? Have you owned a manual before?? Do you intend the car to be a daily driver? I found that the GT was the most enjoyable when you were out on curvy roads where the work of shifting brought you a thrill and wasn't a drudge like stop and go traffic. My first manual was a GT. I had several cars after it that were manual but I got burned out on the constant shifting in traffic. If a manual is relatively new to your daily driving habits it could be a refreshing change. I believe some of that can only be sorted out by you. What ever you decide good luck.:D

Mileage for 1.9 with Automatic

Both my Opels are 1.9, Automatic, Weber 32/36, and slightly larger than stock exhaust. The GT averages about 22 around town and the wagon averages 19 to 20. The GT gets up to 30 highway and the wagon gets 27+.

Original specs said the wagon was 19 city/ 29 highway. Dont know about the GT.

Automatically Better!

My GT is a 1972 automatic and when it was on the road it was an awsome around town car with the auto - no shifting; both hands on the wheel; pedal to the metal type car. Sure, on the open road a manual may be "more exciting" to drive but an auto around town wins hands down!
I am keeping mine auto - and they are much rarer too as everyone and his dog rip the autos out.....
