OK.. here is the deal, this is the nothern route and schedule as I have figured it for those wanting to take the trip on a lesiurely basis.

It looks like I maybe able to come. But to do so may require me "cannonballing" it.

I will post a seperate schedule based on a balls to the wall schedule to save time and money. Which maybe the way I have to do it. Sleeping in the car, or in a tent, and only staying at a hotel in Vegas and LA.

I figure those going at different times can meet the main caravan in Vegas. Becasue the Vegas to LA run is on the last day, and gets us in with time to check in clean up and get to the first event at noon.

Here is my route (For anyone else
cannon balling it and that wants to tag along).

Day 1 - Richmond, VA to St. Louis (830 miles
Day 2 - St. Louis to Denver (850 miles)
Day 3 - Denver to Vegas (750 miles)
Day 4 - Vegas to LA (290 miles)

Day 5,6,7 (August 11,12,13)

Day 8 - LA to Albuquerque, NM (807 miles)
Day 9 - Albuquerque, NM to Ft. Smith, AK (726 miles)
Day 10 - Ft. Smith, AK to Knoxville, TN (679 miles)
Day 11 - HOME - Richmond, VA - (446 miles)

I may possibly go with the Caravan and meet them in
St. Louis on Sunday. In that case there are stops in
Kansas, Coloroado, and Utah, not just CO. Not sure
yet.. Money is the main sticking point. Hotel in LA
will be close to $360, Gas will be close $640, so
thats a $1000 without buying single Big Mac or Coke.
It looks like $1500 may all I have to do this trip..
so I have to use my good old Opel frugality to get the
job done.

So with that in mind, do we have Opelers willing to
put me and my son up (Or give us a place to pitch a
tent) in :

St. Louis, MO
Denver, CO
Albuquerque, NM
Ft. Smith, AK
Knoxville, TN

Please contact me if you can.

I hear ya Charles, I gave up on any travel to Opel meets this year because of a complete lack of money (and time). Maybe in 5 years....

No I'm not going to go but picked a likely spot to sit on an overpass to watch it go by. I was wondering if there was any locals or a local stop. The spot I picked is about 4 hours out but a bit of nothing more than an intersection. Food is pretty scarce. You can send a fax for free from there, don't ask me how I found all this out. Along the I 70 route I'd pick Grand Junction in Colorado. Skip the mountain man for food even if you see it first. It's a tourist dive and known for....lets just say a week later I was over it. You have to get off the planned path a bit in Denver to find a good one too. But there are a bunch if you have time. Spanky's for lunch and the Chop house for dinner come to mind.

Is anyone even considering driving out from the east coast anymore? I thought it'd be fun to caravan out to OMC with other Opels...and safer, too (considering my car won't have much of a shakedown period beforehand).

But I've made this trek already a few times this year and so may fly out if there's no one to share the road with for most of the journey.

Ok who changed the voting options? I just got the tow vehicle and the trailer needs modified for a lowered car so this one is a no go. For me to show mine it needs a few things. I don't want to talk about how I found out the trailer needs modified, it just added to a bit of body work is all....and exhaust.

Unfortunately I know I can't go..

Gary I think is now flying out, Bob is ditching it all together.

Those are the 4 of us that were coming from the East Coast.

The Gages also couldnt do it.. but may fly out.

Bill Hoffman may still come.

Kevin Fier is doing it..

Steve is coming from SD.

Seems like life got in the way for a lot of people.

As for me rebuilding the car broke the bank.. and the killer of it all was the lack of vacation days to do it.
