Can anyone tell me if this oil pan is stock replacement, or performance, with a deeper sump. N.O.S. PART NUMBER 652048. Thanks for any info.

That is a stock aluminum oil pan for a GT.
69-71 1.9 to engine # 19S-729151

If you are going to replace a steel pan with this aluminum one, you also need to get the correct aluminum pickup tube/screen.

This pan can also replace ones used on the other 1.9 Opels.

Would those years and engine numbers happen to coincide with the HIGH compression engines only? Later models apparently had a different pan.?.

Not necessarily. I had a 70 stamped 1.9 low comp, hyd lifter engine with an aluminum pan. Although most low comp GT engines came with the steel oil pan. This 652048 aluminum oil pan was also used on 71-73 50 series Opels (Manta,1900,wagon), which would have been low comp 1.9's by then.

Not to hijack this thread or anything, but How are you doing Tom? We were just talking about you here at the Opel meet on Saturday. We didn't know if you had your surgery yet or not.

I'm hangin' in there. Pretty much been stuck in bed the last 2 weeks. Finally able to get up & about today. Surgery is Oct 31. The 3 DR's that needed to colaborate test results & surgery dates had their vacations set a week after each other. So surgery went from first week of Oct to the last day.


BTW- If this oil pan is used, you will also need the correct length dipstick.

Drain Plug Thread Material Question

My 71 Opel GT has the original cast aluminum oil pan. The 14X1.5 MM threads in the aluminum pan for the oil drain plug appear to be steel for durability. Is this true or are the threads aluminum material?

I'm pretty sure they are aluminum. Jiffy lube over torqued my plug, and ruined my pan.
