I just finished my reassembly of a completely rebuilt engine. I am using a shaft in the oil pump gears to prime the system. Every thing is looking great and oil flows around all lifters. Now my question.

When I look down the distributor "hole" as I am spinning the gears, I see oil spraying from a small hole from the front of the gears spraying toward the chain.

Is that supposed to be there? I saw the small hole in the oil passage in the timing cover as I put it on, but didn't think it would stream that much.

I've never seen the oil hole, but it makes sense that an oiling hole for the chain would be there.
It’s mostly to oil the brass drive gear on the crank that spins the distributor over.

Bob, That is a great looking valve cover!

And thanks, that hole is exactly what I was looking at and wondering if it was supposed to be there, mine does not look as deliberate as yours (and is now in the engine so I cant look at it). And yes, it does hit the brass gear also, I am surprised at the amount of flow.

Thanks again and I can feel comfortable that I am still on the right track.
