I am in the middle of replacing the water pump(painted it Old GM Blue) and decided to pull crankshaft pulley so I can index it for doing the timing legit.


This pulley was from hell! seriously 2 hours of prying and pounding back in to pry again, tap tap tap...finally got some leverage with a hammer and broke the wood handle off. Then I grabbed the long bar for bead breaking on tires and finally popped off.

It looks like the woodruff key was not in the slot, hence hard time taking off.

Anywho, i bent the pulley to all hell, its never going back to true again. So much for driving it this weekend.


While getting acquainted with the pulley, I noticed what seems to be hairline cracks in the timing cover/oil pump cover.
Engine is pretty oily down there, not sure if it needs a new crank seal(pulley sleeve has a minor 360 degree gouge) or if it is indeed these cracks. I noticed before busting out the pry bars etc.

Long story short.... I need a pulley! and maybe a timing cover someday. Any of you fine young cannibals have an extra pully around? I have paypal and can pay immediately. Im not some cheap bastard either. Expedited shipment would pay you for your troubles.

I have all kinds of extra parts for possible or partial trade. Alternators, exhaust hangers, handles, points, condensers, Weber manual chokes needing a rebuild etc etc. Let me know what you might need in return.

crankshaft pulley needed

to clarify, you are in need of crankshaft pully for a 1.9. I have plenty of engines in the garage that i think I could pull one off of. I have a few things to do tonight, but will pull one off when I get back.

pulley needed

Jimmy, PM me and we can discuss cost and addresses. the one I took off came rather easy, though I have had some that have been a bear.

I'm guessing a gear puller was not in the toolbox.
Thanks for stating the obvious, you must be a Bear fan... Jk

Actually I do have a gear puller, but my garage is a cluster mess from moving. It would of taken me 2 hours to find it. I searched for tricks or techniques, and everyone says it should just pop off with some gentleman persuasion... Oh well at least I got to work on my guns.

Have you checked the keyway on the crank to see if it will hold a new key in place? Nothing like going through all of the motions to have the same mess you started with. You may be searching for a crankshaft as well. Those marks that look like cracks in the aluminum cover - appear to be casting marks from pouring the aluminum, probably nothing to worry about. A gouge that you can feel with your fingernail on the crank pulley is deep enough to sling oil all over the front of the engine.

Actually the key is still in the crank. it looks like the pulley was not on crank correctly and lined up with the key. so key is not in slot and causing resistance. I am familiar with casting marks etc, and these do not appear to be such. Definitely has characteristics of cracks, luckily this area is not under oil pressure. I plan on building a 2.0 this winter so ill keep an eye on it.

Need seatbeltlight hazard switch cluster now....

Gentleman,

Next up I need The lowest switch cluster in the dash, i think it has a fasten seat belt light and brake light check or something. Mine is in many pieces...springs, contacts etc

I just got done scrubbing the dash and cleaning all the moldy crusty wires. good as new now. You would not believe how nasty it is behind your dash!
I also sound deadened the firewall and working on scraping all the old sound deadening off the floors and trans tunnel.

Again, it seems that I have what you need. I have about 5 dash assemblies, namely the bezel and speed, tach and gauges. I will look for a 72/73, though I am sure I have several. I will get back to you later tonight.

need at least 4 hydraulic lifter retaining collars- or a full set of new lifters

I am afraid I keep incorrectly adjusting valves without the collar intact. previous owner either beat on this motor or they were set too tight before.

4 collars are broken making the lifter expand, making adjusting valve clearance difficult. they expand making it seem zero lash sooner. I am either leaving them loose or tightening too tight- or maybe they are fine. whatever the case, I would like to replace missing collars, to be more official.

I am buying a 2.0 head for myself for christmas...

Collapse the lifters then try again.
The spring inside lifter does not collapse, it keeps lifter elongated, making me think i'm at zero lash sooner. Retaining collar puts lifter at true position. But for how inexpensive it might be to get some second hand lifter collars, Im gonna try it.

I think, I did them right, but only way to make sure is new lifters, or at least collars on all 8.
