The dollar went to hell against the deutschmark starting in about 1974-75, and by 1976 just about anything out of Germany was unaffordable on these shores, helping explain why GM started bringing in the Isuzu from Japan and slapping an Opel badge on it. Your 1976-77 parts book shows the panel at $91. My November '73 book has it at $55.50.

Back in about 1974, during the height of the first OPEC oil embargo, I worked for a short time as a "parts interpreter" for Fiat Roosevelt Motors, the US importer for Fiat. My job was to convert replacement parts prices from the lira to dollars, allowing dealers to accurately price the parts they were buying. Anything made with rubber (that derived from oil) would see prices change on an hourly basis.

A guy at our church had a bunch of opel Gt and manta parts from when he parted out 2 Gts like 20 years ago. I got this and a ton of other parts like a perfect hood, front suspension, mint gauge cluster, and a bunch of other parts. He still has his manta that has a 2.8L V6 in it. He is a pretty cool guy that has a bunch of cool projects like 3 corvettes and a mazarati bi turbo. He also has an alfla romeo 4 cylinder engine and trans of a GT and he made everything for the swap but he didn't get it done because he bought a corvette and his wife made him sell the gt.

And the funny thing I would have never knew he had these parts if I didn't wear my opel gt winter that that day to church. That is when he asked me if I needed any parts.
