1) How will they be made ?

The are being made by an OEM supplier, and their Certification is above.

You see they are the OEM manufacturer for Tesla, Land Rover, Jaguar, etc.. So there is a high probability it will be acoustic glass. So it be of the newest standards. This type of glass has a special layer in the middle of the glass that is for sound deading.. it's used in most modern and high end cars, the kind they manufacturer the glass for.

SoundScreen Acoustic Glass (carlex.com)

So, as you can see above, they are being manufactured to US DOT / ECC Spec. Our glass will probably go in the oven between much larger orders as they aren't going to change the chemical and materials for a small order. One reason I got the price I did was probably due to the fact we are going in after a large order, that way they don't have to spool up the machine for us, and are probably going to use the tailings of the larger order in front to do our 100 pieces.

2) Will they be too thick ?

No, that I can be assured of, as they have both pieces of glass for comparison and told me it will be within that range.

They are the experts and have the data. So trust the process and the people you hired to do their job.

Also look online and you will not find a "Consensus of the thickness" for DOT Passenger windshields, but instead a range. Why is because the thickness can vary based on the size and shape of glass by miniscule amounts that will not affect fitment. Main thing is they have the factory glass and assured me it will be no thicker than the factory US glass, and can't imagine it will be thinner given the modern standards they will be made to.

3) Will it end up too big ?

Again, I sent them the stock used glass and the thinner Suselbeek for comparison ( and as extra insurance ) so they can confirm the measurements.

I have told them about the issues with older glass and they assured me it will be an exact replica dimensionally. The issue with Pilkenton windshields is that they were larger, not thicker.

4) What is the tint.. - See above picture.

They will be a light green as per standard OEM glass, want to know exactly, check out a Tesla 3.

It is that simple.

So the glass is in production, and they are telling me it should ship in a month.

Delivery in Virginia location expected in 120 days.

Updates here as we have them.

Thank you for your support..

Where would we be paying shipping from? What's the ball park shipping for stateside shipments?

Ball park is $275 - $100 for materials and $175 for UPS with insurance.
Charles, could you please provide an update on the "pre-order" status? Currently the Calgary Opel Co-op members have paid for five (5) of these windshields, so I was curious as to how close you are to the end of the pre-order stage. TIA
The company is on the clock and we expect to have the glass made and ready to ship after some QC checks in 45-60 days.. and then 30-60 days for freight to get to me. Like the Poland orders I will keep everyone up to date when we have it.

So, like a kickstrter, the price goes UP after the first ones are covered?

Not judging. Just clarifying.

When you need one, a new windshield is worth $1000
Yep.. Kickstarter without the benefits..

I am getting 100.. and well need to get some payback on the money invested now to help with procuring the order. So help me help you kind of thing.

BTW.. REALLY appreciate anyone buying to use Zelle 8045030249 or Venmo @charles-Goin-1 as opposed to Paypal.
Question for you Charles. You mentioned having the windshields QC’d during production. What happens if there are production issues that cause fitment issues like what happened to the run at Pilkington (I think it was them) that are discovered once these are delivered? Are all 100 being produced at the same time or in batches?

They guaranteed me they will redo the whole order if that happens. They have the original I sent and will confirm theirs is a match to what I sent.

How light will the green tint be? (ie. How noticeable?) I prefer glass the appears clear if you're not looking closely at it.

It should be like an 5% OEM tint.. thats the goal. Almost 0 but enought for UV protection.
Charles, it has been reported that the windshields sourced from Suselbeek were somewhat thinner than the factory and even North American aftermarket GT windshields.
That was the first thing I noticed when I picked mine up. Noticeably lighter in weight.

When I measured mine with dial calipers, I found it was .260” for an OE GT windshield, and .190” for the replacement from Suselbeek.

Presumably 1/4” versus 3/16” nominal.
Hey Charles, if someone needs to contact you via email about these windshields, what would be a good email for them?
My main email is : ez2wire <at> yahoo if any one has questions.

804#503#O249 is the number.

The leader of the Laser 917 group is going to pick up a order of glass and take it home with him to Arkansas.
So if you order now you save money and if you are between Richmond, VA and Arkansas, you can get hand delivered to you for free (or a small gas donation to Steve for his efforts).

You will also be able to pick up in Arkansas

Otherwise shipping will be roughly $300 with packing materials, shipping and insurance.

NOTE the color is darker that it really is in the picture:

If you look at the bottom of the picture you can see through one glass.
At the top you are seeing the tint amplified by the layers of glass..
In short they are the same tint as modern glass in any production car.

Being able to pick up in Arkansas would be great for me! What city will Steve be taking them back to in Arkansas?

All done.. In the end we ended up with 88..

Some breakage after production.. heard involved a forklift ( I have horrible luck with windshields near forklifts..)

Told him not end of the world. Figured let those slide maybe better deal on Kadett/Manta/Ascona mold costs.

I think they look great.. can wait to see in person.

He is sending back my sample piece as well so I can confirm dimensions. I will replace the windshield in my GT to comfirm fit.

Idle curiosity.
Did you ever get a caliper on the thickness?
Not trying to open any drama.

Charlie gets pissed if he has to repeat himself, so I'll answer for him: Farther back in either this thread or in his main windshield thread he said that they will be almost the same as oem, give or take a few thousandths. They will NOT be 1/3 thinner than oem, like the Suselbeek ones were. They haven't been shipped yet, so we'll have to wait until they actually arrive at his house before we can measure and know the exact measurement.
