1961 AZ Rekord II . . .

Ok, sorry but Im not a purist on things like this. Do you all have any idea how freaking cool and unique that car would be if you chopped and sectioned it and threw a small V-8 in there. Narrow the rear end a bit and put a screaming paint job on it.

This would be such a freaking cool car

If I had the cash I'd be all over that car...
Would make an interesting German street rod with a stroker CIH engine and period-correct wheels.

Stephen, you gonna bid on it?
To consider anything but restoration back to original with a car this rare, especially here in US, is nuts!! . . . IMO . . . sorry, Bob et al.

Wish I had the room and money it'll probably take to get it. Begs the question, is it yours Charles? How are you "involved" in this?

Originality . . .

Otto, you competing with Gary to have the wildest collection of rare Opel metal in the country?

Congrats ;)
Nah, not really. Though, admittedly, a 42K mile, all original 1961 Rekord II with it's well documented history does make a nice addition to mine.

I came to the US in May of 1954 and experienced the whole "Detroit Iron" hot rodding boom first hand and just plain have come to appreciate, after many years of hot rodding primarily "Detroit Iron", how unique "original metal" in any form really is.

Also discovered, quite recently, that I was among the last to go through Ellis Island Immigration processing, as it was closed down in November of 1954. I digress.

AZ 2000 Mile Road Trip . . .

Labor Day weekend trip to fetch '61 Rekord PII from Tucson is planned thanks to Rodney's PU and trailer. Plans are to leave sometime late Friday and drive straight through. US20 and US10 are the most direct routes to Tucson from Fort Worth west. Wish us luck . . .

Looks like I'm going to be spending a lot of time at Rodney's place in the next few weeks . . .

Not only that, but car also has dimmer switch on the floor . . . what a piece of nostalgia this car turned out to be! I remember being somewhat miffed at the audacity of the car makers changing from the floor mounted dimmer switch at the time . . . same with vent windows a bit later.

This car has all three . . . 3-on-tree, floor dimmer, vent windows! :p . . . oh yeah, and a really unique straight 4-cylinder engine, too. The only 'four main bearing' engine (1-2-X-4-5) of its type I'm aware of.

Still gathering miscellaneous parts . . . harder than I thought. Only problem I foresee is maintaining the 6-volt electrical system . . . will have to give that some more thought. 12V conversion would simplify all things electrical immensely . . . hmmmm.

6V quandry . . .

Battery's not the problem, but all the other 6V rated items are . . . bulbs, motors, gauges, senders, coil . . . if ever there's a problem with any of them.

Tried finding any 6V spares lately? Most are no longer carried in-store, if available at all. Anyway, probably wise to always carry spares for any road trips . . . you know, Opel meets!

Palindromic VIN

Was looking through my paperwork the other day and noticed that, ignoring the model number, the VIN number of my 1961 Rekord PII is a palindrome . . . you know, same forward as backward: 11-1580851  . . . stranger and stranger!

Nope, its still sitting at my house where we unloaded it at, in the Over-Flow Garage, I know he is ordering a lot of goodies for it though, but to be honest I don't think it needs much to make her road worthy though.

And OTTO I know you will see this I just have to find one more knob for the BLUE-DOT, the back one on the right.;)
Appreciate that, Rodney. Just received and posted two pics in my Rekord gallery from our Labor Day jaunt to fetch it for those interested.
