Original shift knob ,NICE How do I remove

Okay, How do you remove the original shift knob, I have a local guy making burl wood e-brake knob, headlight rotator handle, and shift knob for me but I can't get the shift knob off to replicate it like the other pieces. if anyone can help me out that would be great. Thanks-Scott

Tough to Move!

IN the words of the factory service Manual:

"2) The gearlever knob is shrunk into grooves in the tube, therefore to remove it, drive it up off the tube and scrap it."

"6) Heat a new gearlever knob in water at 176 degrees F (80 degrees C) and push it over the tube until the dimension between the bottom of the knob and the top of the reverse lockout sleeve is not less than 0.3 inches ( 7mm ).
Do not push the new knob on too far as it is difficult to remove."

It may make the knob a little easier to remove if you heat it up a bit by holding the gear lever upside down and immersing the knob only into some very hot water before trying to "drive it off"

Thanks a lot for the help, I didn't want to smash it into a thousand pieces because the guy needs it to make one exactly like it in burl wood. I guess to put the wood one on I'll need to get a metal sleeve to put in the knob and put a set screw (although I hate using set screws because if you tighten them too much and they strip and too little and your knob falls off(sounds painful, well it isn't but it's irritating) If all goes well my friend making these may start selling them so if anyone wants handcrafted wooden e-brake knob, headlight rotator handle, or a shift knob, just get in contact with me via e-mail. Thanks a lot GTJim!
