Well, the growing little hamlet of Snellville, GA has seen the 13th annual "Orphan Car Show" into history. And Snellville has seen more Opels then before I was married!!! We had 8 Opels there, 2 Sportwagons, 4 GTs, 1 Manta, and one Kadett. The weather was perfect and a great time was had by all. Much story telling, oooing and ahhhhing, pointing and infomation was put out for members and people looking at the cars. In attendence was Myself and wife and kids, Ewin Monsees, Thom Tate, Dan & Ging White, John Lewis, Dallas Mize & son, Oliver Sibert & Sharon Rich, Dieter and Nicole, Rick Bennett & sons, and Net & Tim, Brian, and Anna Jacobson & her Dad. I want to congratulate John Lewis for winning the bronze plaque for Foreign/Import-Other catagory, and Dallas Mize won silver for the same catagory. Dallas showed off his freshly won "Best of Show" from the Carolina Auto Fair, and it was well deserved!There were so many people who stopped and chatted wil each and every one of us about various Opels that it's hard to believe that these people don't still have their Opels!?!? But, we all can't be that lucky But, attached is some pics from the show. I'm sure others are to follow as they get them posted.

Thanks Gene! Thanks again for the invite. I had a great time and got some good info at the same time. I saw some cars I have never heard of and some I could have lived without. ha/ha This was one very unique show and everyone should attend it sometime.

Can't wait till our next gathering. hint hint??

Well, we had a blast at the Orphan show! Took lots of pictures of orphans and met a lot of great people. As usual with any Opel gathering the chance to go look at the cars and confer on various problems and thoughts was worth it's weight in gold. Annette and Tim were able to stop by and visit for awhile to our benefit - and I don't mean just the coffee they brought! Got to meet Nicole (glad she was able to come with Dieter) and see the Kadett that Dieter trailered in. Brian and Carol made a heck of a sacrifice of sleep time to come by - Brian had just gotten off work - and as Gene listed many others made the time to drop in and see the show.
Think the officials were pleased and surprised to see the 'train' of Opels come rolling in to the field. Don't think they had roped off enough area originally. It was windy and we were able to compare and evaluate the respective merits of different shade makers. Gene's won. Mine failed dismally.

I had a great time, unfortunatley I had to leave early. I promised the wife I'd do some things and it being Mother's Day weekend and all...

I really really hope that next year I'll have my car there. Save save save and work work work and with a little luck it will be.

Seeing everyone else's cars really gives me the bug and the determination to get it done.

Congrats to John and Dallas. Dieter, I hope to see that Kadett done soon as well.

Names to faces

I agree with everyone else that it was a great showing for Opels. It was really nice to meet everyone and begin to put names with faces with screen names. Being around other Opelers made me want to move back to the mainland that much sooner.

Congratulations to John and Dallas! Oliver and I had a great time seeing y'all again and meeting the new folks. Sorry we had to leave early -- and no, we didn't connect with the guy with the Firebird so that's still on hold. But we did have a lovely drive out in the country in the Rallye, which ran like a champ Now we'll get started on the body. Looking forward to the next event.

Great Show!

OK all ya GO folks (GA Opelers),

What a great show!! Not only did I get to meet up with you folks I was able to get my wife's Mother's Day gift. (I have a son that can not keep a secret!!)

Sorry I missed some of you guys (Thom, NetandTim). But we still had a great time and a great day. From what I was told this was the first time in many years that it did not rain!!

You had to be there to appreciate the hilarity of driving by Rick ... as you pass and look up (at the big beast he's driving) there's this camera staring at you. The next time you go by there's this camera staring at you. After another light you think you're safe passing by the other side of the vehicle ... and there's this camera staring you in the face. He passed the thing off to one of his boys! I almost wrecked I was laughing so hard.
Just wait Rick. It's your turn next.

I just read your reply to the boys. They were, as well as I, very happy we made you laugh. When I past the camra to Ben (the oldes), and he took your photo I could hear you folks laughing over the sound of the cars and the wind. What a great way to end a great day!!
