I am going to put new tires on some old Ansen Sprint slotted aluminum mags. The mags are 13" o.d. They used to be on my Dad's Manta Rallye. I need to know the correct, modern tire designation to use. I want the tires to work w/ the speedo. and the wheel wells and not be too large or too small.
I won't be driving in the snow but may drive in some rain as far as tire suggestions are concerned.

The original size for a GT was 165R-13. My understanding is this equates to a 78 series sidewall profile. That being said, 165mm = 6.496" sidewall width, x aspect ratio of 78 = 5.067" sidewall, x 2 sidewalls, + rim diameter of 13" = 23.134" tall (plus or minus, as tires vary by brand).

A 185/70-13 is more readily available, slightly wider, and almost the same diameter at 23.196" which is less than 3/10 of a percent.

Tirerack.com

Jarrell;
I have bought tires from Tirerack.com. I bought a set of 4 205/60R-13 Sumitomo radials. $40 a piece. They ride real nice, and handle as well too.

195-60 is too wide for a stock Opel rim. Make sure your rim is wide enough to handle it. It will also be too short. Speedometer will read faster than the car is actually going. 195-70 is a closer match for the speedometer; however, I haven't been able to find these for several years.

More info...ideas?

My wheels are Ansen Sprint slotted aluminum mags which were on a Manta Rallye. I don't know how wide a tire they could take although I would like a wide tire look.

Also, I DON'T want the tires rubbing on the stock fenders when I turn.

Any advice with these things in mind?

Thanks,
BDD

Thank you, Dmcbrass. I have a set of Enkei (sp) rims they were going on but the speedometer issue was what I was concerned about. Gene, I looked for the 205/60 13s by Sumitomo, but they didn't have them. They did a couple of months ago. Don't know what happened. I liked their tread pattern.

tires

Jarrell;
I just checked tirerack.com and you're right, they don't show a 205/60R-13. Try calling them, they may be out of stock right now.

I just bought a set of DUNLOP tires. GT qualifiers. 205/60-R13. I like them alot. The only two tires that I could find in that size were the Sumitomo and the Dunlop. I wa told that the Sumitomo Tires were made by Dunlop. Anyway, the Tirerack could get them for me but I would just now be getting them. This was over a month ago when I called them. I went to Discount Tires, and they finally found the GT qualifiers in Orlando FL. the day before Hurricane Charlie went through. They came that next Wednesday. I ended up spending about $320. The tire has been discontinued, so you will need to hurry if you want to try to get a set.

I just got a set of these last week. You're right, the 205/60-13 Sumitomo's were backordered, but they came in at the end of August.

Dmcbrass;
I got most of my wheels off Ebay and just generally looking around. On my Sportwagon, I'm running 13X6 BBS RAs, with the 205/60R-13 Sumitomos. I got a set of 13X6 ATS wheels (European Opel optionals) from a friend in Belgium. They will go on my wife's Sportwagon. I also found a set of 13X7 American Racing Libre mags to run on my GT.
