I'm getting ready to re-chrome some parts and was wondering what others have paid to have these items done.

Front bumper & bumperets
Rear bumper and bumperets
Valve cover
beauty rings from wheels
center caps
grill parts

What other item have you chromed and what were the costs?

Thanks

You'll find that chrome costs vary greatly with the region of the country the shop is in, the skill of the plater, the skill of the polisher/prep guy, the condition of the parts prior to plating, the amount of copper applied, and the type of chrome being used (hexavalent or trivalent).

Yes, I'm being vague, but it's not too far off from pricing a paint job. You usually get what you pay for. A $100 bumper rechrome with trivalent chrome will not look as good as a $500 bumper rechrome with proper straightening/polishing/heavy copper plate, and use of hexavalent chrome.

For that price, I'd just buy new bumpers or bumpers that have already been redone from opelgtparts.com Even with the shipping you're bound to save money over a really expensive chrome job.

Then, sell your old bumbers to recover some of the cost.

Chrome costs

Got front bumper, 2 bumperettes, two rear bumpers (no bumperettes) outside door handles, and two turn signal lens rings for 670.00. I was not real happy with the price, but when I saw the finished job it was well worth it. The chrome on GT's was never that great to begin with. I bought mine brand new in 1971 and the chome didn't look this good when it was on the showroom floor. Have some more stuff to get chromed, and I'm sure I won't be happy with the price, but after it's done, it's well worth the money. Anybody in Northern or Cental California should look into Delta Plating in Stockton California if you want a really show quality chorme job. I also got the rear bumperettes from OGTS and had them send it out to be plated. Also a fantastic job on the plating, don't know who they used, but high quality work.

Delta Chrome Address

West Coast GT:

The address for Delta Chrome is:

Delta Plating Inc
(209) 948-2768
818 S Stanislaus St
Stockton, CA 95206

It's right off the highway 4 freeway between highway 5 and highway 99. Give them a call, I believe they are not open on weekends, which makes things a little hairy sometimes. Again, they do great work, and there are not too many shops around any more with the environmental protection agency and what not.

Does anyone know of a chrome plating place in Massachusetts.
Someone good and reasonably inexpensive
Thanks
Those two statements rarely go together. Ask for feedback from restoration shops and people from classic car clubs.

Chrome itself is relatively easy, it's the metal prep that's hard to do and time consuming, and therefore costs $$$. The people who do nice chrome are truly craftmen.

That's like comparing body shops/painters. Paint itself generally costs about the same, it's the amount of labor and know-how that makes a job cost more and turn out correctly.

It's like Bob said.... Good, Cheap, or Fast....you can only ever get 2 out of the 3 on any given item!

Someone had a post for a shop in So. Beloit Il I was going to check out. Will let you know what they quote...

chrome

Bob,
you're right, but it does not hurt to ask.
With soooo many shops around, I was looking for some local feedback from the opelers around here. For some reason, a lot of people are "cagey" about giving the name of some of the shops where they had the work done, i.e. --still looking for a good machine shop that would be willing to work on my engine.
Thanks:) :)
