rear louvers

Has anyone ordered rear louvers from Keith Lundholm?

I've read on this site that having louvers that tuck under the window rubber are a pain to wash - anyone know of any that have a hinge? Someone was talking about adding one to theirs. Are they noisy? rattle against the window?

He sells them for 135$

His description of rear louvers:
They tuck under your window rubber, and are secured by a raised middle strip that have screw holders. Each louver has one screw that holds it in the middle. These are sold as-is, unpainted. All GT rear windows are the same, there may be some slight bending required.

thanks

I have a used set for sale. If you clean the window and apply Teflon coating(like they spray on new cars now) or Rain-ex the window stays clean for a while and can be sprayed off with water.

The louvers on my Manta were rattle free. The prvious owner had applied some self-adhesive rubber weatherstripping under the central support. This cushioned the louvers and the glass.

Rear Louvers

Ask the source himself. I've had these louvers on my GT for 3 years, never had a rattle problem. Once they are mounted properly, they won't be able to rattle. In fact any louvers that are properly mounted shouldn't rattle. As far as washing, a wash mit will slide between the louvers, but if you are worried about water spots or not reaching certain areas of the window which you don't see with the louvers on, then you need the plastic type with the hinge. The drawback to those are that there is more mounting components. All louvers are a pin to wash around, but after I detail my GT, it doesn't seem to be a problem.

I have this exact set of louvers on my GT, but, I originally got them from C&R Small Car (Bob? you there?) As for cleaning, it's no big deal, unscrew the holding screw and pull it gently out from under the rubber. Taking care to keep them in order. It does prolong the time between cleanings if you use Rain-X. I also, periodcally, have to remove them to repaint them. Mine are not body color (yet), but, flat black. And as the louvers take most of the beating from the sun, a repaint every other year or so, is no big deal.

Guess that did it. Love my rear hinged louvers- cleaning takes about 2 minutes longer than without them. Just have to have my little wooden dowel to hold them up when cleaning. The side louvers are a wonder. They, combined with the back ones keep the black interior about 15-20 degrees cooler in our Houston heat. :)

NICE WORK

Amazing response people! Thanks! Sorry, I would have asked the Maker himself, Keith, but I wanted other opinions after I read the discussions on louvers, before I spend my hard earned money!! They do look like they are a deal, my friend, nice work.
Since "opelgt21" has a used pair for sale, I think I'll see if I can get a line on those... nobody else contact him or Keith before I get some!! haha!
Thanks

Since we're talking body effects- how about examples of rear spoilers. I am modifying a 97 Civic hatchback spoiler for the Opel ( Ebay $2.88 + shipping) . Could some of you post pics of yours and how you like them as far as looks and performance?
My wife says it makes the GT look like a pimp-mo-beel.

side louvers

Just received my side louvers via UPS (thanks Keith) and installed them on one side. I think it was a good deal for $75. I may trim an edge here or there to produce less rubber bulges or bend a tab but will wait and see if the rubber conforms to shape after a few days. I put these on the GT used for experiments which also has the new air system installed. As a side note, this Vintage a/c is installed in the tire storage compartment and the air is vented only back there. I was pleasantly surprised the air is strong enough to blow my hair and I stay very comfortable. So, driving in Houston will be a lot cooler (when I get the windows fixed) in the summer.

Blue Opel GT

My blue one is safely parked in the garage being restored. Maybe in a few months it will be running around League City. I did have the experimental GT over in Pearland a couple of months ago but it will never pass for blue. Hopefully we will meet up at one of the Houston events during the year.

Rear A/C

Bob,
You don't have a picture of that rear unit do you? I have an ad from Climatic Air from the 70's that was sold through the dealer that sounds just like that unit you describe. It shows it mounting to the rear panel board where you usually add speakers. And the control box was placed in the rear of the back console. Thought of finding an aftermarket unit like that and would like to see pics of that setup.
