a 72 head should have hardened seats, if you buy this head i would advise new valve seals, grind the valves and lap the seats for the best seal, and check the valve guides, if they're worn it will smoke upon start-up, and possable use a little oil. you'd really have to have a look at the head to check your lifters, cam, cam bearings and such, or a honest description from the seller about the MIC readings and such. if its a 72 head, have it magnafluxed for cracks between the center 2 exhaust runners, talk says they're prone to it, altho my 72 head on my 2.0 is fine, but valve guides are shot, so are cam bearings.
