before you guys go 'enh?', i'm 22, so i love stupid useless mods... . i plan on personally hooking that lamp up to my ground kit and 'other illegals' so when i'm on public roads i know when the cops aren't going to like me all that much. lol.

sides. if the brake pedal goes more than halfway to the floor, you're in craptuclar nastiness anywas, and should be looking for an escape route as opposed to the dash board to confirm "Oh crap... apparently that means my brakes are out..."

I don't know how it's in a GT but with the "A" Ascona if the clutch is worn to much the red light of the hand brake will light up as wel, you can test this if you pul the clutch pedel up [there is a switch up there]

My red dash light comes on when i turn the key on. I looked at the master cylinder and only find one wire connected to it. If you are looking towards the front of the car(like you were in the drivers seat), it's on the right side, is there only one wire on the master cylinder?

I pulled that wire and it didn't make the red light go out. I do think my parking brake might not be working. When i had it on a slight incline at the body shop i put it on but car still rolled a little. I just kept my foot on the brake.

Would the parking brake make the light come on and stay on? It's a 73 and the brakes feel fine to both dave and I.

There is only one wire. If the wire touches ground, the red light goes on. This is how the switch works. I believe the '73 also had a switch on the parking brake. I'd check to see if there is a switch under the paw of the parking brake. It works on the same principle, the wire grounds out and the light comes on. Automatic GT's also had this switch.

Push the parking brake handle down. The light should go out.

My experience with parking brakes is that they don't usually work very well in reverse.

ROFLMAO! no, i dont think it would work well in reverse. Parking brake is down, I even FIRMLY put it down and up a few times, still with the light, course like i said, i think the parking brake isn't all it used to be. Will have to find and incline and test it out again.

Don't hurt yourself laughing too hard. I meant they more easily roll backwards than forward with the e brake on.

The '73 model GT has a switch that you can probably get to by removing the tray around the shifter and carefully pulling the carpet back at the top. The wire for the switch runs along the drivers side of the tunnel under the carpet. The switch is easily adjustable once you get to it.

Nice pictures Jeff. It looks very easy for this wire to wear and ground itself out and cause the light to come on. I'd advise checking this wire all the way back to the dash and checking the switch.
