I want to swap my rear bumbers from my 69 to my 70...what's the best / easiest way to remove them? From inside the car or from the rear lights? Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Take the tail lights out - unless you are VERY thin with long, double-jointed arms you will never get past the gas tank. There is so much more that has to be stripped out from inside to reach them ..... Oh! You will still need the double-jointed arms to reach the bolts down through the tail light openings.
For the bumpers and bumperettes, three nuts per side and don't forget to remove the wiring for the license plate lites on each side. And take out all four rear lites to access the nuts. Us petite folks don't have to be double-jointed, just need longer wrenches to get more torque.
Just removed the rear bumpers on my 73 through the tail lights. A very liberal penetrating oil bath and overnight soaking they came out very easily. Note use a high grade penetrating oil, not wd 40 etal.
