Hello, all - new member, first time posting. I have a lovely 72 GT 1.9L that recently suffered a short behind the dash that was severe enough to cook the loom just past the firewall under the hood. At a minimum, I'm going to be replacing the harness behind the dash and under the hood as a result. I have a diagram, but I'm not entirely comfortable replacing the harness myself -- I have neither the time nor the know-how...but mainly the time. Since Hagerty is footing the bill, I'm looking to source replacement harnesses, as I have a shop willing to do the work (and that I trust). Any suggestions??

You might talk to Keith at NewVintageAuto.com. I think he makes color correct replacement harnesses.

Yes, I can build a complete harness for your GT for the body. The only part I currently do not make is the instrument cluster harness. They are listed in the for sale section on my website New Vintage Automotive| Automotive Restorations Opel Specialists. If you have a shop that can handle the insurance claim, they can order it from me and it is pretty much plug and play. Will need some lead time on one though as we are quite busy and I make the harness per order as they are year specific. Will want to ask some questions before building one anyways in case I need to add something.

If insurance is footing the bill, see if they will cover ~$1,000 for a complete electrical system upgrade.

They make them but require a core sent to them and they do not have them prepare either. I build the same harness, all made in USA with steel powder coated box

Keeping the same color coding as the factory makes trouble shooting much easier IF you ever have to do it after the install. The Painless harnesses have their place but if you aren't adding a lot of extra stuff I personally prefer to stay with the OE type harness. Keith can modify his harnesses when he's putting them together if you have something you want to "improve" on your GT.

Keith, Udo does both. They will rebuild your own box or create a wiring harness out of a metal box they supply. The metal box looks identical to the one you do, I wasn't sure if there was a connection or not. The link I provided is for a metal fuse box replacement harness. Obviously it will be cheaper to get a new electrical system from you in the States, but since you don't offer the dash wiring harness I felt like sharing.

They do need the fuse strip and plugs from the old fuse box however, upon reading the description closely.
