Have a search here for "Norris Valve Springs" There is a post from Otto listing the items available from:

Norris Performance Products
14762 Clavert Street
P O Box 484
Van Nuys
CA 91411

(818) 780 - 1102

He supplies after market retainers, springs and reground cams for Opel CIH motors - I have one of his "320S" grinds plus spring/valve retainer kits.
Trying to find out the specs for the grind and if it is hydraulic or mechanical.

The rocker studs do screw in and lock in the head with a taperd ring formed at the top of the threads ( NOT shown on the attached pic!). The 60 degree Chevy V6 has rocker studs withthe same lower thread, into the head, but with 3/8" UNF lock nut threads - Crower do a screw in stud that is in their Chevy 60 degree V6 roller rocker kit but it needs an oiling hole drilled up the centre and some modifications to be used in the Opel head.

OGTS lists replacement standard Opel rocker studs too.

Thanks for the reply.

Hey there,

I've got the Crower retainers, the machinist at the shop says that aluminum retainers in any form are no good. The folks at Isky said they use them on import applications all the time. Who's to say.

I talked to RD Spring in Hesperia, CA and they made some 9mm retainers for Opels in the past. I'm trying to get them to make some for the stock valve stem dimensions.

We'll see.

Agreed, aluminum is for racing only, and they should be changed annually. I remember sucking a valve through an aluminum retainer on my old Corolla 2TC, it was pretty ugly @ 8200 rpms....
Stick to steel or step up to titanium.

RD Spring builds some nice stuff, the did a lot of the development engineering work on the Infiniti 'Indy car' racing engines, 11,000 + rpms! Roger Wilson uses them for all his custom Opel racing stuff.

The typical problem with using an aftermarket rocker stud is the hex heads will hit the underside of the Opel rocker arms...they sit low to the head, hence the tapered seat Opel uses on stock rocker studs. Don't forget to torque to 29 ft lbs, and use NO loctite! Nothing worse than cloggin' the oil gallerys to the rocker arms.

Thanks to all of you who have commented. I will keep you posted on any results from the folks at RD Spring for steel or titanium retainers for the stock valve stem diameter. If they say yes, I'll probably order 2-3 sets and have a spare or two.

Thanks again.

Installed height, seat pressure and 9mm retainers

Stock spring installed height is 1.563" (1 9/16", I measured on my 2.4) and stock spring pressure is ~93lbs seated. Get the 9mm retainers for stock valves from Norris ((8) Valve retainers (9mm Opel valves) . . . . P/N 4319001 - $24.00) and use the stock keepers. HTH

Spring pressure

Otto,

I have two sets of those Norris springs, retainers and the spacers for the exhaust valve spring seats. Have you measure the seat pressure of the Norris springs at installed height? That was one thing that worried the shop about those aluminum retainers. He said that he'd seen many instances of aluminum retainer failure. Just don't want them to go south on me.

Thanks,
