I'am currently trying to restore my second GT. The first one no rust.
This second GT loaded with hidden rust. Has anybody tackled front frame rail rust/inner fender splash panel rust. Would cutting out rusted area and piece in another from rust free GT. or is that too much work or just weld in some fresh sheetmedal?. see pics. any help would be great.

i know how it is, i had an exposed driver side door for about a month, i had to sand it every day with 320 grit to keep the rust back until it was primed.

well i did the rear passenger side fender replacment due to rust out from a previous fix. i am also working on bothe drivers and passenger side panels right infront of the door near the ground they were all rusted out due to internal rusting, i just took a die grinder cut out the area that was bad and then put it up to my parts gt traced the area and also i always cut an inch bigger then needed so i cut out the rust free piece from parts cart and am getting ready to weld it into my other gt. ive found thats what works the best is to use a piece off a gt for the replacment sheetmetal.

well if you are cutting the area out of anoter car then you are restoring the wrong car!

all kidding aside as far as metal interior to the outer body it is best to just cut it all out and fabricate some new pieces out of scrap, even if you have a good panel to fit it is easier to work with the pieces that you make and can weld in one at a time.
