rear main bearing

Gang,
Been slowly putting more stuff together this afternoon on my new engine and cleaning and painting old parts. Drilled out a broken dip stick tube in the old oil pan. Fun. I ran across a page from OGTS that they included in all my rebuild stuff that said something about using sealer under the rear main bearing to avoid a rear leak. Am I reading this wrong, or should I put some goo under it? Also, should I put anything on the new dip stick tube before pounding it into the pan?
ThanX,
James

I'm sure your engine reassembly is already beyond this point, but...

I always smear a little Hylomar or silicone on the rear bearing cap where it meets the engine block to prevent leaks. I once rebuilt a Kadett 1.9 before I figured this one out and sure enough it had a slow steady leak at the bearing cap for all the years I owned it.

I suspect that an anaerobic sealer such as is used on the front seal of the Getrag 5-speed might be idea for this spot as well.
