Is the filter/strainer at the end of the pickup tube (inside the tank) needed if adequate filtering is done outside the tank? I have three filters between the tank and carburetor ... a see-through filter just outside the tank, a filter before the electric fuel pump and a third filter before the carburetor? It's common practice to remove the "sock" from the GT fuel tanks without any negative consequences, and I was wondering if the same applied to the Ascona. The tank has been sand blasted and coated inside and out ... the filter at the end of the pickup tube was about 75% blocked (rust and a jelly-like substance, evidence of silicone sealant). Are replacement in tank filters available -- so far I haven't found any. Can the filter be cleaned and made serviceable?
Thanks ....
