i am thinking of making a custom aluminium shift knob i no that u boil the old knob in water and then it will slip right off. but i dont want to do this till i have a new one to put on. i was wondering what way would i attach a new knob? and also is there any other things i might have to modify or change. the main reason for a custom knob is due to the s/c console getting in the way when i go into 3rd. thanx for any help.

most aftermarket knobs, even the ones designed for your particular car, just slip on and are held in place with a set screw. Others actually screw on, but, as you have found out, Opel is not this way. The various makers of knobs have different "sleeves" to make up the difference between your shaft diameter and the knob shaft.

Hmm.... Is it possible that you have the shifter from a Kadett or Manta in your GT? The GT's shifter has a slight bend to the drivers side to compensate for the engine tilt.

The OGTS shifter boot is an excellent reproduction of the
original & fits perfectly. Spray a little silicone or lubricating
fluid (wd-40) etc... on the small end of the boot and work
it over the shift knob. It doesn't look like it will fit but it will.
You could also use liquid soap as a lube.

Thought I could ask this on this thread, has anyone ever put a manta shifter (longer and angled) in a gt? does it look good or stupid? would it even work?

thanks

The knob would end somewhere about your elbow. And in my opinion it would look like crap.
