So... What is the secret to getting the center cap back on an original 1970 GT steering wheel?

Push.

There are no fasteners. It just snaps into place.

It's not quite that simple, there's a tab in the plastic on the back of the horn button that lines up with a corresponding slot in the horn ring. Line that up and then push the horn button on.

The problem was that the copper ring that is inside the horn ring stayed with the cap when I took it off. Of course it broke the plastic when I tried to remove it from the cap.
