Manta/1900 cold air - "stock"

Use the Manta one with an adapter.. it flows better than the GT one.
1) There is a bell mouth connection on the Manta firewall you connect the end of the Manta connection too. See attached.
2) You can also cut the Manta aircleaner back a few inches to get a square 2x4 opening and use a more modern connection to the firewall. I plan on doing that later.
Either creates a Ram Air effect, also you can get K&N filters for more flow through the filter from K&N for the Manta housing.
As for lighter, the GT one to me wouldn't seem to be any lighter than the Manta, none that matters, if it is lighter. Also the Manta assembly is higher above the intake and wouldn't have the restriction of the neck on the GT one.
The only mod you have to do to the Manta cleaner is too remove the screw lockdown assembly on the bottom of the air cleaner opening. It is spot welded in. Once you remove it you are left with the rubber gasket that works perfectly.
These pics are of my 40DFAV and a stock aircleaner and adaptor.
Charles is spot on here guys, but I don't think he would gain much by his "modern connection" in #2 though. DFTTAB.
That said, two small suggestions to save someone some time and perhaps make what Charles talks about a bit more effective:
1. K&N recommends their E-2780 filter for Manta/1900/Kadett 1.9, but I've found that the
E-4790 filter works better, it's slightly taller = seals better and has wider cross section = more filtration area.
2. Would recommend STRONGLY against using any metal body fuel filter anywhere underhood because of radiant heat absorbtion, a prime contributor to vapor lock, especially where shown in second pic between radiator and front of exhaust manifold.
