O.K. Folks, here is our report of the Tacoma 2003 Gathering of Opels...Gary, hope This one is not lost...or sent to Iraq (?). The day began really early July 19. Opel John was out there getting everything set up and ready to go before "the Opels started appearing. It was a very sunny, hot and shadeless day in Washington, we could still see Mt. Rainier covered with snow. But the glare made picture taking almost impossible, especially in trying to get the "true" color of each car. We had approx. 50 cars that day. "Simply Opels." Joe showed up in his Viper Red 73 GT from Tacoma. Alex, with his 72 Orange GT. Opel John still can't find his Orange 71 GT after the last large earthquake we had here in Tacoma a few years ago. Buried somewhere under years of Collecting Collectable Junk! Of course, Opel Walt and Opel Mary came cruiseing in flying "Old Glory" in Support of Our Troops! Sharp new paint job..Sparkle RED 71GT, from Lakewood. Ed, from Salem, Or. did not have an Opel with him, but brought Parts for sale or trade. David from, Seattle drove his Gray 72 GT. Paul "Azopelnut" joined us from Yuma Az. with his top of the line Yellow GT. super car, great job there. Hope to see you again next year. Steve was next, from Tumwater, with his 73 Green GT. Matthew, from Redmond, Wa. appeared in his red 70 GT. Ed drove in from Lacey in his 69 GT. Timothy from Milton, and his White 71 GT. Andy came driving in his 90 Cadet "E", from Tacoma. Next was Steve from Federal Way in his 71 Yellow GT-5 Speed. Dennis, from Soulsbyville,Ca. visited. Of Course, our faithful one, Gil, from "Opel GT Source" was there taking parts orders and answering as many questions and giving advise to all. Thanks Gil, we really appreciate your support. Look forward to seeing you again next year.....how about one of YOUR GT"S too? Thomas brought his 69 Yellow GT from Az. Nice car too, real nice. John from University Place drove his Butterscotch GT. and was voted "most Stock" Those are always a sight to behold. Mike came in from Lakewood with his Silver 73 GT. And Melanie with her 75 Ascona "B". It really is in good condition. Todd from Portland, Or. drove up in his 73 GT. Diane and Ken from LaPine, Or. in their 74 Manta. Dave from University Place drove his 72 Red GT. AND "YOU KNOW " Opel Paul and Karen as always in their White 70 GT. Had good luck this time. John from Shelton, Wa. 72 GT. Gabriel, in his Red 73 GT. from Kirkland. David from Bothell visited and brought parts for sale. Garry from Kirkland, Wa. George, from Lakewood, drove his 71 GT. Mark came in from Sammish with his 72 GT. showing 230,000 miles! Patrick, from Tacoma in his 60 Opel Rekord. Gerold from Port Orchard brought his 74 Manta. Steven, Tacoma 74 Manta Lexus. Larry, Tacoma 74 Manta Rallye. David, Kirkland 72 Blue GT. Tim, Ravensdale, Wa. with a White 73 GT. Joe, Port Orchard, Dave, Ravensdale and Craig, Burien all visited and enjoyed the cars. Dave from Fircrest, visited with "ad - Manta for sale." Larry drove from Orting in his Yellow and Blue 71 GT. "J" came in from Gresham, Or. advertising his Manta's. Joe from Bothell, 73 Manta. Then ending the guest listing of names and cars is Roy from Bellevue, Wa. with his Blue 74 Manta Rallye. We do want to Thank all who contributed Prizes. Brickyard Bar and Grill, their site for the Gathering. A "Hello" to JJ Wheatley and his "one of a kind GT." We hope you will be in our area next year, we missed your expertise. Most of important, we want Tammy June to know that we are all thinking and praying for her. We really did miss you this year. Remember your friends in Washington. Now, is that a report or is that a report? Yeah, I know , Where are the Pictures, well, it ain't easy!!!!!! Opel Paul, Opel John and Opel Mary. See you all in 2004. Now Gary, I am done, what do I click on to now? Hope to see you here next year also. You will be more than welcome....if I can get this to work.....And I thought our Opels could be difficult. Dang, sorry I missed it, and it was on my Birthday too! I'm glad to see my Father made it, he would be "Dave from University Place in his Red 72 GT". And if I had made it I would have been Patrick from University Place in his White 70 GT! I made one of the get togethers before the Navy shipped me out to live in San Diego and that was probably back in the early 90's and the ole GT has been in storage ever since! Hopefully I"ll be around for the one next year.

Glad someone else is thinking the same thing as me. I wish there was an event in the Washington area. Maybe this will prompt or encourage others to chime in.
There has got to be many Opel owners in the Pacific Northwest.

Just saw your post Gary. Never heard an announcement. Really sorry I missed it. I have been watching for any advertisements, but none. Who is the event sponsor?
Maybe I can correspond and make it for next years event.

There has been an Opel meet in the Tacoma area for a long time. It is the one big meet I have yet to attend. If you look back at old event threads you can probably find who is organizing them now. Also you can find some great photos of past events.

I went to the Tacoma meets for a few years.
The turnout, even with one of them being the National, was only about 8-14 participants.
I know there are a lot more Opelers in the area but it doesn't seem many want to attend events, for whatever reason.

I met Opelers I didn't know at the meets. And I have met many Opelers that don't go to the meets.

It would be awesome if all got together. We'd see there are probably over 100 of us in the area.

I agree, I bet there are over 100 Opel's in the Pacific Northwest. I wish there was a way all of us could be identified. Is there or was there a club in the Northwest.
I see there are clubs all over the US, but none in the Northwest. The closest club looks to be in California.

The following isn't meant as a dig on the rest of the country.

I think there's just so much to do in the PNW that there's not a lot of time left for car shows and stuff.

It takes energy are real effort to make a show successful, and as much as I appreciate what John (Tacoma) and now the Snohomish folks did/do, it is not enough. Start early, talk it up, create a buzz, and do something with the show to make it both interesting and memorable. That said, maybe one of the folks in this thread would want to take this on.

If it were paired with a veedub event it might be easier.

I certainly agree. I would love to drive across country to sponsored Opel events, but your right it is a bit of an undertaking.
It would be nice to just get together periodically with other Opel owners within the local geographical area of the Northwest.
