There's one that's been parked 2 blocks away at the corner gas station for the past 15 years.

I grew up with one in the parking lot across the street from my house.

The yellow 69 1.1L along with some other things looks to have had a repaint somewhere in the past. With that and the after market intake I would be hesitant to give 16 grand for it. As mentioned above Gordy has the Silver 69 1.9L for sale which would make someone a nice GT for the price. He also has a Red 69 1.1L GT for sale that if someone put 16 grand in it would be a very nice GT and you would know exactly what you have.
I think this is back. It's been on an off of ebay now a few times. I'm interested, but concerned. I don't mind doing a resto on one but it needs to be the right one and I need to know numbers match. I've noticed some issues and some items that aren't correct on the car (front lenses are the clear, black weatherstripping lock, mirrors, windshield wash equipment, etc. Of particular concern is the radiator frame extension (I do have one as well as a complete 1.1 drive line except for the correct front suspension.) and the fact that the VIN plate is missing on both the firewall bulkhead and door. I haven't seen a pic with the VIN on the dash yet.

I had a 1.1 once that I had bought in Clayton County GA in the late 80s that was relatively rust free. Unfortunately that one was crushed when it was supposed to have been in storage for me. Someone had fashioned a fiberglass lip spoiler on the back, just a small lip that changed the shape as the rear deck met the back panel. It was originally stratos blue, but was also painted like the '76 anniversary Corvette (silver/grey two tone).

Be aware that we lost another 1.1 this past month in Mississippi. Someone sent it to the crusher. I know the owners of those particular crushers and I tried to get it, but title had already been turned in as "Sold for Scrap" to the feds. They were willing to sell me the rest of it as a bone yard car, but I didn't have the resources to take time off and drag it up here to Colorado. I have the VIN plates off of that one just for fun and the gentleman that got those for me was telling me that it was a relatively rust free and complete car. Too bad.

There's another one in Mississippi, and I spoke the guy that advertised and sold it a few months ago. He's trying to contact the gentleman in Jackson who bought it to see if he would be interested in selling it. (I think this smclassiccars site linked below is just a repository, click bait site of old ads. The guys I spoke with said he sold his car over two years go) Also, I don't THINK this is the car that was sent to the crusher there

1969 Opel Opel GT 1.1L Flat rear - Classic Opel 1969 for sale

Here was one listed from Indiana.

1969 opel gt ohv - Classic Opel Opel 1969 for sale

Here's an interesting ad for a another car in Missouri... It says it's a 1.9 but the chassis VIN is a #93

1969 Opel GT - Classic Opel gt 1969 for sale

I've used the 'inquire' button on that site to try and get a response... of course, no luck.

All of this being said... Gordy, if you still have yours, let's talk. I'll try to look you up in the user directory.

LOL, I used to have a neighbor who's FleaBay name was "FargoTrash" which I always thought was pretty funny for about the same reason, except for the small fact that the guy actually worked for the local waste management division here in town :)

As for the model re listed at 5g's, I have noticed the same disturbing trend in some of the auctions for Opel parts too. It's like they think people are stupid and don't watch the auctions. "Gee, it didn't sell for 3g's so I will list it for 5g's and a richer clientele will look and buy it for sure" :banghead:

Some of the Opel parts I have seen the same kinda crap on are the taillights. You will see them listed in a buy it now for 40 bucks, won't sell, and next thing you know it's relisted for 80 bucks. Like I am gonna buy it for more to pay for it's failure to sell the first half dozen times around:no:
It just floors me, this wave of greed driven stupidity that has washed over the entire planet, and mainly the US,..anything, and everything that is clapped out, rotted worthless junk, NO MATTER
what it is, is now worth ALL THE MONEY!!! Blue sky!! Unbelievable!!! Ive seen on ebay tail lights for the GT and manta at $75 EACH!!! GTFOH!!! I get them in Denver for $5!!!!!! (and thats from a shop
that back in the day built SCCA racing Manta's!!!!! He still has tons of Opel parts there!! I guess this means your GT, and my un restored, but nice Manta are worth 40K right off the bat!!
Just because "they run"...and exist,..the Internet made everyone think they could be "professional" dealers in a day,..and everyone is doing it.
Little do they realize their early onset incompetence, and is has had horrific effect on the car buy / sell/ trade community as a whole. Most everything is outrageously high, and beyond common sense. Example...
ANY car out there with 180K, and approaching 300K they are demanding $2500-$5000!!!!! WTF is wrong with these people??????? Ok,...so 250K is the new 100K???? LOL!!! IMBECILES!!
We are left to deal with these incompetent, fully un educated, and inexperienced Chimp's for God knows how long, OH, and HEY! If it does not run,...add another thousand to it!! Good God!!

As long as you're ranting about GREED.

I'm in a place where I can buy a house. I found a place that would work for me. Not a great location but not bad either. Nice neighborhood on the West, forest to the South and a trailer park to the East with a sunset view over the tops of the tarp covered trailers. But it has enough room to build a shop.
The owner bought it 20 months ago for a fair price. Today they are asking $48,000 more for it with absolutely NO improvements. If anything it's gotten a little wear on what used to be nice accommodations.

I made an offer that would give them a couple bucks and they didn't even bother to respond.

The funny thing is the market is so soft here that it's scary. last week there were 15 new listings in the area I watch and only 3 sales. Redfin and Zillow show houses dropping their prices by tens of thousands of dollars. It's all about the GREED!

FWIW, the house I was looking at sold for $100,000 more 20 months ago than it did 5 years earlier. The market was hot 4 years ago. Now, not so much.

I think the same thing is going with cars. The market was hot for a couple years but it's cooled considerably. I think that was due to the cash for cars program a few years back.

Too much reality TV. If you are selling something you mark it up because everyone is going to try to talk you down. If you are buying, you'd be a fool to offer what they are asking. So the asking prices are going up and the offers are going down. I try to be fair with people but that only means I'm paying too much for stuff.

Oh, it's not just as you say, try attaching a brand name to a common part, a ANSA exhaust tip, $25 - 50 on ebay, BUT, since Ferrari, or Maserati uses the exact same tip.... $400+. CIBIE series 35 fog light, same thing, $35 or so, Ferrari or Maserati $ 300+.....go figure....

'72 GT in Topeka

I've been watching this one. Not that I need it.....

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1972-Opel-GT/283559428118?hash=item4205758016:g:LOAAAOSwP7ZdK969

I communicated with the seller who says he/she is a child of the owner, who passed away. The mother is the trustee who will sign off on the title. The seller says they do not plan on converting the Non-Higway title to a regular title upon sale. I explained that I wanted to make sure that the title was directly transferable to VA, without any title problems.

The pix show a Kansas 'Non-Highway' title from 1984. I've learned that Kansas Non-Highway titles issued prior to 2000 could be for storage reason, or for salvage reasons (i.e., damaged, needs repairs before being highway-safe). There is text on the title that does not mention repair work being needed prior to exchanging this title particular for a regular one, so I may call the Kansas motor vehicle folks to see if this clearly means a storage title, and then call the VA DMV with questions on transferring an older KS Non-Highway title.

So if you are considering this car, be aware of the above. I've had one acquaintance who bought a damaged P/U truck from GA for use in his business, repaired it, but could not title it in VA due to a snag in the title path due to it not having a properly transferable document from GA to VA.

It's called Capitalism. Charge what the market will bear. If someone is willing to give you $1000 for something that could be found for $100, you'd be an idiot not to take it. Feel guilty? Put the extra $900 in the church basket. I'll overpay if it saves me time and inconvenience.
couldn't have said it any better myself. But the pastor would have a ton of questions if I put that much in the basket
