I am trying to figure out how to tighten the timing chain, i see the very large bolt on the timing chain cover, is there a bolt inside that needs to be tighten? does anyone know what size that bolt is?
That 1 1/16" hex bolt is the chain tensioner. It is spring loaded and has an oil hole to lube the chain. I have heard that you can make an extension for it by taking a rear wheel cylinder piston, drilling a hole in the middle and pressing it onto the tensioner end. The additional length compensates for stretched or worn chains or for loose chains in heads that have been milled.
