I always use sealeant on the trans to bellhouse gasket, but, not on the cup seal. Periodically check the tightness of the 4 trans to bellhouse bolts, as they, especially the bottom 2, tend to lossen and cause the trans to jump out of gear.
Passenger-side bottom bolt is difficult to tighten properly due to wrench clearance and tightening arc limitations. Most 15mm box wrenches (DO NOT TRY to tighten this bolt with just an open end wrench) have too-thick walls and too-far-recessed faces, both of which must be ground down to provide sufficient bolt head engagement and turning radius.
