Transmission Oil Filler?

shame on me, i dont remember if the plug is a hex or a square drive, i do believe is a 3/8 square drive "plug". it threads into the passenger side of the trans case, its a little bit smaller than a half dollar.

I think it takes an 8mm allen wrench.

Graham, the standard for filling the tranny and the differential housing is the same, fill the case until fluid starts coming out hole. A good way to do this is get a gear oil pump from your local auto parts store. They're fairly cheap and will pump the heavier gear oil fairly easy from bottle through hose to gear case. HTH.

The fill hole is on the driver's side of the trans. Some plugs are the type that take an allen wrench, others are the type that take a regular wrench, but, you fill it till the oil runs out the hole.

Is the allen screw on the transmission the same size as the one on the differential?

this thread is from a long time ago, but my tranny is leaking at the rear seal, prolly because of the freakin torque tube issue i'm having, but i wanna fill it up... i can't find the damn plug on EITHER side, which in this search, i'm told to look on either side...
so.

1.9L 4spd tranny. leaking oil at rear seal. what do i fill with. where do i fill.

It is on the drivers side, just under the horizontal linkage. If you cant see the hex head plug you probably have a plug with an allen head screw that is full of crud.

Tranny and diffy lube checks and fill

Hi Everyone, Maglin, you will need to get under the car, for the tranny on a GT there is a plug on the side, it easy to reach, as I recall it is a hex plug, take it out, and stick your finger in, if you get oil on your finger, it is full, if if flows out, it is overfull.

Same thing for the rear end, but I cannot remember what the rear end plug is, a hex or a square drive to get the plug out.

As for the rear seal, that is easy to change, and last I heard you can get those seals easily enough. If you have a problem with the torque tube, be sure the mounts are good, else you will have that problem again.

80-90 weight gear oil. I do believe others use redline synthetic. Also you must have the car up on jack stands front and back so that the car is level or you will get an inaccurate reading and fill. One of the ten dollar suction /fill guns works great for filling. Once you get the oil in your hair the blondes will stay away for a week!

I've tried the oil suction guns that look similar to a grease gun and didn't have much luck with them.

I laughed at a friend using the little cheap plastic pump that screws into the top of the oil container ---- until I used his. $10 will probably by you a few pumps.

Follow the above advice. The GT engine is tilted. In other models you fill until it flows out.

I felt better after dropping the gearbox pan and wiping out the case. There's a magnet in the bottom of the pan on the Mantas, was nice to see no shavings there. I refilled with Redline MTL on good advice, and it shifts better now, no leaky seals encountered. Redline 75-80 in the diff. I do use non-synthetic in the crankcase though, having heard of others with leak problems.

Go to the Dollar Store and buy a cheap turkey baster and slip about a foot of hose on the end of it. Stick the hose down in the gear lube bottle, squeeze the bulb and release to fill the baster. Insert hose in the fill hole of the transmission and squeeze to fill.
