Does anyone in the Fort Smith, Arkansas area have a spare 4 speed tranny? Mine, which appeared to be in very good shape, just locked up... and it wasn't even under load, actually hadn't even been driven.

I know that there are several of you in Oklahoma or NW Arkansas with Opels... just can remember who you are. Driving a couple of hours for a spare tranny is no problem for me.

Hopefully someone can help me out!

I could put together a rebuild kit for tranny out of some NOS stuff I have laying around and mail it out to you. But it would help if you knew what broke as I could also send any replacement parts (gears or shafts).

I know this happened a couple months ago. Did you check the shifter linkage? :confused: A tranny locking up is usually due to loose linkage, shifting into 2 gears at the same time. I've had it happen driving down the street. :eek: Wrong kinda tranny brake. It only takes one loose bolt or bad lock washer.

Thanks All

I found that it locked up because the input shaft got in a bind when I installed it. The sliders dug into the 3-4 syncro and locked it up.

Now my problem is it jumps out of 4 gear unless I hold the shifter. I'm sure this problem was caused by the other issue.

It sure is a shame, becuase I had just replaced ALL of the seals AND gaskets.

Wow, two options to solve my problem. Either a good, quite running used tranny or a rebuild kit......

To the untrained eye, the gears looked just fine. I may have a bearing noise problem and something needs to be replaced in the 3-4 gear synco / slider area.

A trade for a GOOD used tranny may be of interest!

Paul;
I also shipped a complete head (minus the valve cover) again, about 70lbs, from here to TX, cost about $20 Both the trans and head were shipped by UPS.
