How would I go about finding the value of an Opel GT Body? The engine is locked up, so of course it doesn't run. It's been sitting under my parents deck, out of the direct elements for about 15-20 years. The body appears to be in very good condition with not rust and no visable dings or dents. The paint is probably marginal, but might be okay. I can't tell because it hasn't been washed since it was pulled under the deck. It's that orangy-yellow color. I can't tell you about the interior. There may be some things salvagable in there, but I haven't gotten in and looked. Tires are probably pretty dry-rotted, but might hold air long enough to pull it out and take some picture. It belongs to my brother who is the world's biggest procrastorator. He doesn't have the time, interest or ability to restore it and neither do my dad or I. Also, he can't remeber what year it is. How can I go about figuring that out?

All I can say is this and it will be different where you live at. In 83, I traded a Vega for a GT (smashed butt). Last June, I got a white GT (no motor/trans) with 1 4" dent and no seats for $150. It will all depend on the interior and the motor. Was it seized when it was parked or just from sitting. My guess, in my area for a rust-free and good interior, about $500-700. There's members in your area that could give you the local range.

My understanding from my brother is that the engine seized before it was parked. From what he tells me, the engine will need to be replaced. It is sitting under a deck about 6' from the outside edge which has lattice, so the rain does not blow in and there is not any direct sunlight because of the lattice and trees. The seats may just need to be cleaned up or they may need to be reupolstered, but it does have seats. It was my brother's primary mode of transportation until the engine seized on him. I think he had intentions of coming back later and fixing it up but has never gotten around to it. It's in my way now and I'm mainly trying to prod him along into finding it a new home since I know he will never do anything with it.

The car is sitting on a concrete pad so I wouldn't think the mositure is too bad. However, Alabama gets pretty steamy in the summer, so I'd think that would be more of a problem than ground moisture. I opened the door this afternoon and there is no moldy or musty smell. I do think the "bear" has misunderstood though. I'm trying to determine a value for this car body to sell it at a fair price, not to buy it. So far, no ideas on how to figure out what it's worth or where to go to figure that out.

market value

1-put a reserve on it.

2-put it on ebay with 6-8 photos

3- the market will dictate the value..you will soon know.

this is my 2 cents...best of luck

Just curious as to where you are in Alabama.

My Buddy with my old Opel is In Ozark, there is one driving around in Troy, and there is one in Clayton. (All these areas are south of Montgomery via 231 and North of Dothan.)

On model year, I always looked at the back windows if they pop out they are 71+ and if they are fixed then its either a 68,69, or 70 I believe.

Pop Out

1971+ the rear quarter glass hinges open at the rear corner and you can see the two hinges behind the door pilar with round black or chrome "bolts" through the glass. The rear clasp is also attached that way too.

If it does not have them it is earlier. Also there should be an ali tag under the hood near the front screen that has the VIN number on it. The VIN number further identifies the year. 94xxxxx is earlier than 77xxxxxx as 94 Model numbers came out before 77 Model numbers - go figure!

If you can get the drivers door open 6 inches or so there should be a date of manufacture sticker on the door below the latch mechanism.
