valves and their adjustments -question-

I have finally put my motor back together, taking my time and making sure everything is right. I have just put the head on , rods and started tightening the valve bolts down. In the manual it says .08 gap... but where is that gap spozed to be? The hight changes throughout the engine cycle.

Thanks!

At "TDC", or Top Dead Centre of the Firing Stroke. Adjust the valve clearance at the valve end (not the push rod end) for both the intake and exhaust vale when that piston is at the top of its stroke on the compression cycle, with both valves closed.

HTH
Thanks, the manual says UDC...

Adjust valves cold by setting each piston to UDC compression stroke and adjust intake valve to .008 lash and exaust valve to .012 lash.

What is UDC? UPPER?
