next installment of weekend probs. I tried unsuccessfully to install a crane ignition system. its hooked up properly, but there is not enough juice to fire the spark plugs. without the system pluged in, i get 12v at the coil. with the system plugged in, i get about 5v. HMMM, im stumped. when trying to crank it over, there is not even enough juice to make a timing light flicker on the coil wire. once again, Any ideas? could i have a wiring problem from the ignition to the coil? Argghh!!!

It sounds like the resistor wire that powers the coil is also being used to power the Crane igniter, and the resultant increased current draw over the resistor wire is causing a serious voltage drop. Try powering the Crane system with a separate (non-resistor) wire and then see what the coil voltage is. That is the recommended hookup for the Pertronix system, and maybe the Crane draws even more amps?
