This was an issue with all of the GTs (4) that I've owned over the years, but they were all 1.9's with Weber carbs and mechanical fuel pumps. I'm a bit surprised to hear that it is also an issue for the 1.1's. I think an electric fuel pump seems to help (at least with the 1.9's) but for me (and I'm not sure why this worked) I found that pressing the accelerator ~ 50% while cranking always seemed to work. It would crank a little longer than a cold start, but would always catch after 5-6 seconds. If I tried to start it with the pedal to the floor or without giving it some fuel, it would crank but not catch. Not really consistent with flooding or vapour lock, so hard to say why this would work.
Thanks for the quick response. I changed to electric fuel pump after getting the car, so I never really experienced the problem with the mechanical pump. Maybe my observation of "struggling" is skewed. It starts in 5-6 seconds which seemed to me too long compared to the immediate cold start (w/choke). Thanks again.
I’m in Cape May with with “Hemmings Motor News” King Midget with a bunch of other microcars for an annual event. We just cruised thru Cape May Point where we passed this tidy GT from PA. Was wondering if owner is a forum person?
Here’s my KM, for what it’s worth:
Hello. Was wondering what others are looking for, for upgrades-wise that isn't available now. For me. Tried & true fuel injection kits. Turbo kits, Power steering that doesn't break the bank. Whole front-end clips. What would you like to see that isn't available now.
I have a good many parts chrome wrapped in paper. Andother parts To give away for free. Just want them gone without going to dump or scrap yard. I am not going to go through them. If you are in michigan and have an opel gt you can have all I have. Just contact me and arrange to pick up.
This is a popular thread in another car forum that I frequent, so I thought I would try it out here, and see if it catches on.
In that forum, it is a "sticky" so it stays near the top of the thread list and has about 180 pages of replies.
Basically, just a few words or whatever you want...
