The world according to James.....

Doesn't the pretty polished metalic intakes transfer more heat then a hose? Aren't these supposed to be "Cold Air"?

They would indeed, James. But everyone knows that true-to-heart rice-boys don't want to go fast, they just want to be cool ;)

I am kidding, of course. We don't get a lot of that kind of stuff here in Shreveport, but I did actually see an Accord the other day with a real-life carbon fibre hood (and some primered ground effects, of course). When I asked him where he got his performance engine parts he told me "Well... I got my hood and my ground kit from a place in Dallas, and I ordered my muffler online - but I haven't started any work under the hood yet."

*shakes his head*

yeah, gotta love the guys that spend more money on things like body kits that really don't help any, lighting, and stickers, than things that actually make the car run better or faster. They must just be going for something that looks fast, but really isn't... me I'd be more interested in something that was fast, but didn't look like it :D Less likely to get pulled over that way too.

Going off of my bad memory...

carb adapter--$62
rubber plumbing coupling--$2
3" hose--$12
3" OD exhaust pipe-- $5
rice boy air filter--$22
2 bandaids for cut hand--.25

so approximate cost was $103.25

not counting all the extra stuff I bought that didn't work!

I have this one on my GT....just a little different from that one....from Jam Engineering. Matches the valve cover nicely.

I ran a hose to a large cone filter in front of the radiator. I still worry that the opening on the adapter is too small, though.

adapter plate ?

James,

I still worry that the opening on the adapter is too small, though.

Are you referring to the plate that changes the round holley 5 1/8" hole to the weber shape or are you referring to the 2" by 2 1/2" oval opening at the front of the snorkel?

This one was made to fit the Weber, so the opening fits correctly on my 38. The opening I worry about is the 2" by 2 1/2" oval where the hose attaches. Between that small opening and the fact it's so short, I just wonder if it doesn't become a restriction at some point of high air demand.

I'm sorry, I don't have a pic of the under side, but will take one as soon as I have time to pull it off. It seems like I posted a pic of the whole setup in a prier post several months back.

what did it cost too build and can make one for me
with steel
I have finished mine with the same Weber adapter and the same filter. But I used steel 2.5" mandrel bent pipe painted with high heat paint. (polished aluminum color for the rice boys)
Used 2.5" rubber boots made for 2" ID PVC, so they measure 2.5".
Might I ad that the rubber boot going through the radiator wall is nice and snug. No rubbing, rattling, or supports needed.
I had to put a one of the boots on the end because the filter has a 3" ID hole. I will order a K&N that fits on the 2.5" pipe and then I can take that off. Though I may leave it on as a support since it fit's so well.

George,

Now that's how mine was SUPPOSED to look! Great job. Can you give us the measurements on the pipe bend? Did you have it custom bent or was it one of those exhaust pieces like JC witney sells that you chopped?

ThanX,

Look in my photo's, it was a prebent "J" pipe, 180 degree bend. I got it locally, but JCW does sell them. I didn't take any measurements before I put it together, and I REALLY don't want to take it back apart.
from the pictures you can get a really good idea. I only used two pieces
