while out and about I took this picture. It has a 2 cylinder engine and what looks to be a cloth top.

hi Baz, It looks like Trabant. But i think Trabant had the motor at
the front. every body in east Germany was driving Trabant.
when they took the wall down east/west German border
every body left the Trabant on the border. thats the story
i hear from my German technician.
back to the subject Autobianchi is part of Fiat.

i think that has to be the rarest car in the USA as it must have been left in the glove box of some other car when it was imported
you could restore it and carry it as a spare in the trunk of a manta for when you run out of gas and save your legs when you go to a gas station :D

I figured somebody would have asked if I morphed the picture. I was told it was set there by human power, 3 or 4 people could wander off with it. by myself I can lift a corner.

Trabant was made of duroplast, not paper its some sort of early fiberglass (resin & wool), the engine was in the front, and looked quite a bit uglyer than the car pictured. Unlike opels that suffer from rust, trabants biggest enemy are pigs, they like to chew the panels.

later trabants had a 1l VW Polo engine instead of the original two stroke two cilinder... and you most certanly don't want to buy one.

yes Rick it does look restorable and can be purchased. I do think it is very rare and extremely different. Make an offer and I'll pass it along. I can take more pictures if you want. here is one more
