Clutch and rear end question

Clutch and rear end question

My car is in the air on jackstands while the new engine is being broken in. I noticed that while it is in neutral and the car is running that the rear wheels spin. I can stop either of them with my foot very easily but the other one than the one I stop still spins. When I put in the clutch they will stop.

I thought my clutch was out of adjustment and tried several adjustments there on the bell housing but the wheels still spin. Is this normal? I realize that most people don’t run the car with it in the air so this may be normal I don’t know so I am hoping someone who is mechanically inclined might know if this is normal.

Is my clutch maladjusted? I have the approximate 4.29 inches that the book calls for of cable there from the bracket that holds the clutch cable to the thing that comes out of the transmission where the cable hooks I have approximately ly1/2 to ¾ inch of play in the petal

Note my flywheel has been lightened to about 13 pounds from the stock 23lbs in case this makes a difference.

Also when the Manta Rally is running since the drivers side wheel will turn on its own while I am holding the passenger side still does this mean that this is a posi rear end?

It has nothing to do with the clutch. When you have the transmission in neutral and the clutch pedal out (not depressed), the clutch is engaged, and still spins the transmission input shaft. But even in neutral, there is a bit of friction within the gearbox (lube oil viscosity, gear cluster bearing friction, input shaft to main shaft bearing friction, and so on), so the tranny will still put a small amount of torque into the output shaft. So if you stop one wheel, the other will still spin. But if you put your e-brake on, they should both stop quite easily. If not, your tranny has some internal issues. Like a seized gear cluster, or a friction-welded input to main shaft coupling, or...

But what you seeing is perfectly normal. HTH

Had the GT up on blocks today to find an oil leak. When I started the car with the tranny in neutral, (4 speed manual), the passenger side rear wheel started spinning like the car is in gear. I can stop it with my hand, but it will start again. Is this supposed to this or do I have tranny trouble?
