You'll have to excuse the exuberance, but I'm on an adreneline rush...
Speedway GT is a hit! How does fifth place sound, in a field of thirteen cars?
I would have got fourth they say, but I made a mistake when first place and second place got around me (they had started in the back, I started second row outside). A Mustang that had tailed me from the start was able to get around me when the fastest cars did on lap 12.
We started the day with problems, my spring mod to the right side did the trick but made the car so loose that I spun out on lap three of practice. We put more wedge in the left rear to get the crossweight back to 47%, the majic number that we had last Wednesday night. In the heat race the car was better but still loose and I spun out, caused a caution... not a good show. I was bummed and looked stupid... So we did some tire switching, moved left side tires front to rear and rear to front which brought front stagger up and rear stagger to only one inch, normally not enough. I remember Bob saying a GT needs less stagger than what is normal, how is that, but he was right. In the main event the car was great, would you believe it pulls away from the Fords coming out of the turns? They can catch me going in but coming out I lose them. Coaches say it's because I'm turning in too soon. Gotta work on that.
Anyway, thanks again to all who helped with advice and encouragement, we have a car that will get a checkered flag soon. I can't wait till next Saturday night! :D

Thanks, guys, you're almost as loud as my cheering section in the grandstand!
Yes, believe it or not, you can hear them even inside the car.
Con, the track photographer got some good shots and they will be up on the speedway site soon hopefully, will try to forward them to here.
DTM we are running a high bank asphalt 1/4 mile oval. It's a blast. See it at www.montanaracewaypark.com for a good time.
Yeah we are not even tuned in yet. Still running an advanced cam, are a hundred pounds overweight, and I don't have a clue how to drive... :D
Boy you learn fast out there, huh?
The overweight issue is the project of the week, got the right door skin off and am having fun with hole saws and grinders... I read a book by Don Garlits, the top fuel drag racing champion and pioneer who put it in a perspective that makes it easy. He said something like "when you can't find another way to remove a pound, find sixteen places to cut out an ounce!"
I'm concentrating on the right side and the rear mostly, we have 53% left (could be more) and 50% rear weight which I'd like to see come down.
I put over fifty laps on the car last night and this morning I topped off the gas tank, it took a bit less than three gallons. Was quite surprised!
Cooling system is working, stays at 190 with just one of the two fans on and still have the stock crank pulley driving the stock water pump pulley, would like to improve that also...
So on we go, the easy part was building the car, now comes the hard part- parking in the winner's circle!

Thanks! As you can see, we have a lot of fun at our awesome racetrack. It's a nice facility, very much geared for full family involvement! My crew is daughters Joceline, age nine, and Carley, six. Very into the race car, Jocie understands engines and differentials and suspensions very well and Carley draws neat pictures of us all standing in the winner's circle with a trophy as tall as she.
The blonde gal introducing all the drivers with the flagman in the photos is Michelle, she and her sister Marie and Marie's husband Aaron own the facility, bought it from M & M's parents who built it in the early nineties.

Hey Jeff Congratulations!! What a rush that had to have been - and this was the first race? Wish Montana wasn't so far. Love to come scream like banshees next time you're out there. :D
Fantastic pit crew you've got too!
Here's to blowing all their doors off next time around.

Jeff,

The pictures look great! And that whole spin into the infield "looking stupid" thing... bah!

Heck... if nothing else you'll have to spin once in awhile just because the crowd LOVES it! :)

Dang, that pit crew is somethin' too! ;)

Regards,
